I ran my gaze over her last sentence about understanding her, only to be distracted by a loud sigh across the room. “No,” Prince Cael said, his finger pressing a button at his ear. “Everything’s fine. I’ll ring you if that changes.”
Cillian and Lorcan were both staring at Prince Cael. Grey, too.
I couldn’t hear who he was talking to, just a low hum of sound, and Prince Cael’s responding grunt. “Okay, fine. If you’re going to pout, then come over here and be useless for all I care.” His hand dropped, telling me he’d just ended whatever call he’d been on.
“Dixon?” Grey asked.
“No. Granger,” Cael growled. “He’s insisting that I need an Elite present.”
Kieran snorted. “Sounds familiar.”
Cillian and Lorcan both arched brows his way. “You get lonely without us,” Cillian drawled.
“Sure I do,” Kieran drawled right back.
The air shimmered as Granger appeared in the office, his stoic expression taking in the scene before him. “What the bloody hell are you even doing?” he asked.
“Reading,” Grey told him, then returned to the item in his hand.
“Reading what?” Granger asked.
Prince Cael sighed and started explaining about Ashlyn’s journals, causing me to look down again at the entry I’d been reading before his conversation had distracted me.
Right, as I was sayingwas the next line, causing my eyebrow to arch upward. It’s time. So I need you to listen closely, Stars.
Okay, now I was… about eighty percent sure she’d written this to me. Maybe.
If I’m right, your power is changing. You canfeelthings, yes?
I blinked.This can’t be real,I whispered to myself.
Vana?Cillian asked as I read the next line from Ivana’s journal, which said,Shh.
Holy stars,I thought.
No reactingwas what came next.I mean it, Stars. Just focus andblockout everything else.
The wordblockhad been written over several times, giving it a bold-like appearance. Seeing it and thinking about it had me putting up walls all over my mind on instinct, but not with Cillian.
Instead, I left my thoughts open to him and whispered,I think I found something, but we can’t tell anyone. Not yet. Not until I understand what this means.
In my peripheral vision, I saw him take a step toward me.No, you can’t react. Just let me… let me see what Ashlyn might be trying to tell me.
He continued toward me anyway, causing me to grit my teeth. But all he did was clasp my chin and pull me up for a kiss.
They already saw me looking at you,he whispered into my mind as his tongue slid into my mouth. Now I’m just distracting them from wondering what caught my attention.
He deepened the embrace by sliding his palm to my neck and squeezing my throat.
For a split second, I forgot what I was doing. Hell, I was pretty sure I forgot my own name.
Because Cillian was kissing me.
In front of his friends.
In front of their mates.
I’ll kiss you in front of the entire fucking world, Vana,he told me softly.Whatever it takes to prove you’re mine.
