Of course, she still smelled like Vivaxia. Even from here, the aroma of dead roses had my nose curling.

She’d definitely done something to Camillia. Thewhatremained to be seen.

Ty, Ajax, and Az were all discussing it now. It was an intriguing evolution in the conversation they’d been having moments ago—whereby Ty had informed Ajax that his Warden status had been fully reinstated, no strings attached.

I couldn’t read Ajax’s mind, but I suspected he’d been shocked.

However, according to Ty’s thoughts, the Warden hadn’t displayed an ounce of emotion.

Which naturally had earned Ty’s approval.

He liked that Ajax was a strong fae. I did, too.

Now the three of them were discussing next steps regarding Camillia, something I only knew because of my link to Ty.

“We need to talk,” Ty had said about thirty minutes ago, his words for Ajax.

“The deal,” Ajax had replied.

“Indeed.” Ty and Az had shared a look before Ty had suggested, “Let’s go for a walk. There are some things I’d like your opinion on.”

“What about Cami?” Ajax had asked, our mate having just wandered off to take a shower.

“Melek,” Ty had prompted. “Can you look after Camillia?”

His tone had suggested it wasn’t a question so much as a request, but his mind had gently stroked mine, aware that I was feeling a bit uneasy around Camillia at the moment.

Still, I’d agreed to stay here. It was where I could be the most useful—if Camillia allowed me to be, anyway.

As a result, the three of them had wandered off for a stroll through the palace courtyard.

Ajax might not realize the purpose, but I did—Ty wanted everyone to see them together. To know that Ajax had been accepted into the inner circle. That he was more than just a Warden; he was Ty’s confidant. His friend. A being deserving of respect.

With how much the Hell Fae in our kingdom enjoyed chattering, word would spread quickly.

And Ajax would soon realize the importance of their stroll.

However, Ty was as productive as ever, using the opportunity to not only solidify Ajax’s status but also discuss what he felt in Camillia.

“Maybe we should consult Zakkai,” Ajax had just suggested, the words playing with my king’s mind as he tasted the opportunity.“If anyone can unwind a spell, it’s him.”

He wasn’t wrong, something I’d been about to whisper back to Ty when the water shut off in the other room.

I swallowed, my body going rigid.

When Cami had gone into the shower, all of us had been out here. She had no idea that I was the only one waiting for her, and I wasn’t sure how she would react to that.

I eyed the food I’d ordered, the tray having appeared a few minutes ago. Cami had to be hungry. But I wasn’t sure if she’d like what I’d requested from the kitchens.

This is ridiculous,I told myself.

Never in my entire existence had I ever felt this insecure about anything or anyone. This lack of confidence was going to be the end of me. This uncertainty about Cami was going to drive me mad. And this?—

The door opened, distracting me from my inner turmoil, because an angel had just popped her head out to look around. Droplets of water lingered in her dirty-blonde hair, their alluring sheen trailing a slick path down her neck to her collarbone where she held a towel tightly against her chest.

“Um.” Her lips twisted, her eyes scanning the empty room.

“They went for a walk,” I explained, my voice a little deeper than I’d intended. I cleared my throat, again hating all this uncertainty. It wasn’t me. It wasn’t how I worked. It wasn’t who I wanted to be or should be with her.
