‘Sylvia says the purpose of Twin Flames is to develop higher consciousness as our souls learn their spiritual lessons, and so wouldn’t we naturally take different actions the second time around?’ asked Cara.

‘I think there’s something in that, but there’s also the weight we carry as time travellers. There are many questions we must ask ourselves, such as, will we attempt to change the past to create what we see as a better future? Will we do so only for the greater good, or will we also use our gift to change the future for ourselves and for the people we love? And of course, the big one: how do we even decide what is abetterfuture?’ Eddie paced around again, stopping to draw imitation speech marks in the air with two sets of fingers to stress the point.

‘It’s a minefield because we don’t know the future implications of our actions,’ said Cara.

‘Yes,’ said Eddie, turning his attention to George. What’s critical to consider when you think about Swifty, is that if you followed your gut, which you seem to have done, then you did the best you could.’

George raised his head. ‘So, you mean if I had decided not to send him—to ignore my gut—even though I recognised him as an ally, that could have messed things up even more?’

‘Potentially.’

‘Now you sound just like Sylvia, Eddie. Who would think a quantum physics professor and a psychic would give such similar advice?’ said Cara.

Eddie grinned at Cara. ‘Don’t forget it was Sylvia who introduced us in this timeline.’

He addressed George, ‘I would wait to see whether the police find Swifty.’

‘I was afraid you might say that,’ said George. ‘Although I wouldn’t go against the queen’s wishes, so I have little choice. I only hope the police have located the lad or I’ll never forgive myself.’

‘Swifty is smart; if he’s anything like Tudorville Swifty, he’s difficult to out-fox. I have a good feeling about it,’ said Cara, reaching for George’s hand.

She hated seeing him so upset.

‘Carlos and I loved our dinner with you two the other night,’ said Eddie.

‘It was brilliant seeing you both,’ said George.

‘I have major fear of missing out,’ said Cara, rolling her eyes.

‘Never fear. If you’re meant to remember, you will. It’ll all come back. Although, I’m not convinced we’re all supposed to be aware of every timeline...I think sometimes we’re just sleeper travellers,’ said Eddie.

‘I was happy to hear you and Carlos are still together. It must be eight years in Victoriana time since we first met in Seville. Looks like there’s a happy ending for you, after all, Eddie. You were quite forlorn when we first discussed your love life,’ said Cara.

‘That devil, Carlos, broke my heart in Tudorville, but ever since you stumbled upon him working at Willow Manor, we’ve been together here too. I’ve no idea whether I’ll see him again in Tudorville, but two out of three ain’t bad,’ replied Eddie.

‘I bet if you had a reading with Sylvia, she would find that you two are also multi-generational Twin Flames. Perhaps it’s your destiny to reunite in all the timelines, too,’ said Cara.

Eddie scratched the side of his nose, as he reflected on his complex five-hundred-year love affair with Carlos.

‘It’s a bit far-fetched, but it could be the case,’ he said.

Cara threw back her head and laughed. ‘Hold on, is this the guy who is creating a time-travel-on-demand system, saying that being in love with the same soul through multiple generations is far-fetched?’

Eddie raised his hands in mock surrender. ‘Nothing is beyond the realms of possibility, given what we’ve seen. I still think harmony in two out of three timelines is pretty good going, but maybe I’ll talk to Sylvia when I get a chance.’

‘Talking of which, have you guys made peace in Tudorville, yet? Last I heard, George was a wrong-un, and it had all gone to hell between you.’

‘Oh, that’s old news, Eddie,’ said Cara. ‘You advised me to trust him and you were right, as usual.’

‘That’s fantastic,’ said Eddie, beaming at them. ‘I can’t stand it when you two are at odds—it makes my life very difficult.’

‘I’m afraid, we have much bigger fish to fry in Tudorville, and your life might be about to get more difficult,’ said Cara.

Eddie rested his head on his hands on the wooden table and looked at her expectantly.

‘George is involved in the most dangerous uprising of the Tudor period,’ she said.
