Ethan: I know…
Ethan: I’m glad you were there tonight.
Serena: Me too.
Before he could stop himself, he tapped out one more text.
Ethan: Good night, beautiful!
He tossed the phone onto the bed with a huff of frustration. “Clearly I’ve lost my mind. If she were interested, she would have said something to me after that damn kiss!”
Holding the hem of his shirt, he pulled the fabric over his head and set it over his shoulder. Moving to the bathroom, he popped the button on his jeans and finished undressing.
Ethan took a quick shower, letting the cool water shock his frazzled mind. He had never been this unsure with a woman in his life. He could only describe the magnetic pull between them as supernatural.
He shut off the water and grabbed his gray cotton towel. After wiping his face dry, he stumbled back at the sight before him.
Serena lowered the familiar mug from her lips and spat out her tea. She grabbed her head with her free hand and stared at the liquid with question. Lowering her hand, she felt along her cheeks and lips. Hurrying to the kitchen sink, Serena shoved a finger to the back of her throat, but nothing would come up.
Ethan watched in horror as Serena swayed and crumbled to the ground. He felt the tingling in her face and lips, the way her head swam, and the bitter tea on his tongue.
He sucked in a harsh breath and cradled his head in his hands. The vision left as quickly as it had hit him. After a few minutes, he calmed and heard a smattering of things crashing somewhere. Looking around, he realized the vision must have engaged his telekinesis.
Ethan pushed to his feet and hurried into his bedroom. He grabbed his phone, unlocked it, and selected Serena’s number.
“Come on, come on,” he chanted.
“Ethan?”
He dropped onto the edge of the bed and exhaled. “Thank the goddess.”
“What’s wrong?” she asked, concern coating her words. “What happened?”
After running a hand over his face, Ethan recounted the vision he’d had. “You need to replace all of your tea,” he demanded. “Maybe even your kettle.”
Serena’s silence had him pushing to his feet. He paced the end of his bed, comfortable in his naked state as he feared the possibility of his vision coming to pass.
“Damn it, Serena! That’stwovisions I’ve had of you dying. If you don’t replace your fucking tea, I will!” His heart thundered against his breastbone. Shutting his eyes, he focused on her and watched as she emptied her mug into the drain.
She set the mug inside the sink and leaned against the counter. Her index and middle fingers massaging her temple. “Okay, babe. I’ll toss out all my tea. I wish we knew why you were getting these visions.”
Babe.
Ethan dropped onto the end of his bed and rubbed the heel of his palm against his solar plexus. Warmth spread through him at her endearment, but he forced himself to not react like a teenage girl. “I also wish we knew. I can come over and sleep on the couch if you’d like.”
Her chuckle made him smile.“I’m a high priestess. I think if anyone comes in here looking for trouble, they will find it. Don’t you think?”
“Anyone who dares to hurt you deserves the full force of your power, angel. If you change your mind, you know how to get a hold of me.”
“I do.”
“Good night, angel.”
“Good night, babe.”
Setting the phone aside, he leaned his elbows on his knees and dropped his head into his hands. He’d finally found a woman who appealed to his senses, and things were as confusing and complicated as possible.
He pushed to his feet and grabbed a pair of clean underwear and basketball shorts. From his desk, he removed a yellow pad of paper. Holding his head up with one hand, he jotted down the visions he’d had with as many details as he could recall. Remembering the ceremony, he made sure to add the goddess’s warning.
