“Yes, we hear each other,”she replied with her eyes shut tight.

“I’m sorry. Wait—youknewwe were soul mates?”he snapped, pushing off her body.

Serena bit her lip.“Yes…”

His expression became hard as he got off the bed. She rose to her elbows, watching all the muscles in his back, ass, and legs move in the process of leaving her. Dropping back, she sighed.

“Damn it,”she muttered.

Instead of hearing a reply in her head, she heard a growl from down the hall. Unsure if she should follow him, she decided to give him a couple of minutes to think. It was not like the conversation could not continue now that they had come together. There were no hiding things from each other now. She could feel his frustration from where she lay, but with it, she felt a morsel of elation and understanding.

“Please come back,”she pleaded.

“Why? So you can hold back something this important again?”he snapped.

“I’m not having this fight with you telepathically,”she snapped back.

Serena dropped onto the bed, throwing an arm over her eyes. “Men are infuriating.”

She could feel and hear Ethan pacing in the other room. It was not entirely a shock to her that he was upset. She recognized their connection before bonding and never told him. But, how would she have broached the topic?Ethan you’re my soulmate. We just need to fuck to seal our magical bond.

The reminder of their union sent a tingle down her body. She had never experienced such mind-blowing sex before. Each touch, caress, and kiss heated her from the inside. She would have remained loyal to him without the bond to continue receiving his loving touch. The moment Ethan filled her, she was done for. There was not a cell within her that had not submitted and agreed to do everything within its power to keep him safe and hers.

“I can feel you getting hot from the kitchen,” he whispered in awe.

Serena lowered her arm and met his gaze. “Really?”

“What are you thinking about?” he asked, leaning against the door frame.

She took him in, from his tousled, just-had-sex hair to his masculine feet, crossed at the ankles. When her attention veered back to his partially erect dick, it twitched. Her womb clenched, silently begging for his return.

Serena shook her head. “You still mad?”

Ethan dropped his chin to his chest and raised a finger. He pushed off the wall, turned from her, and disappeared. Reaching out telepathically, she noted his anger had simmered to frustration. He returned a minute later with a damp cloth and kneeled at the end of the bed. Her heart stuttered at the gentle way he cleaned her folds. The features on his face were soft, and his emotions were as rattled as her own.

Setting the cloth aside, he lay on his back and tucked a hand under his head next to her. Serena hesitated for a second before curling into his warm body. She put a hand on his chest, his heart beating under the pads of her fingers.

They lay in silence, each gathering their thoughts as she took the opportunity to study the light sprinkle of hair on his chest. There was no denying she belonged in his arms. She may have fought it tooth and nail, but now that the deed was done, she felt stupid for rejecting their truth.

“I’m sorry,” she muttered against his skin. “I—”

Ethan tipped her lips to his and brushed a soft kiss against them. “I’m sorry for snapping at you. How long have you known?”

“Not very long. The night you came for a lesson and I gifted you the selenite.”

He nodded and moved his hand from behind his head to her hip. “I guess it all makes sense. My reaction to the visions of you getting hurt ran deeper than anything I’ve felt.”

“It scared me,” she blurted as she peered up at him.

“My visions?”

“No. The realization you were the man I’d given up on finding.”

Ethan chuckled. “You’ve been rather skittish around me lately.”

“Well, as our attraction ratchetted, I worried I’d mess up after finally finding an oracle for the coven.”

Ethan rolled her over, tucking a leg between hers. “So you admit being attracted to me.”
