Serena swatted his arm. “No, I like screwing men I’m not attracted to.”
His brows narrowed with distaste. She winced at causing his emotion but hoped he was not the kind of guy who could not handle talking about exes. Hell, he would have to see a few of them, as they still frequented her store.
“Is that what this is? Just screwing?” he asked.
Serena cupped his face and stared at him, trying to gather the guts to answer him.
“Because I’ve screwed women before, and what happened tonight didn’t feel like that,” he said before she could reply.
She shook her head. It was the slightest movement, but he did not miss it.
“Honesty, Serena. There’s no room for anything else between us.”
“I don’t exactly hear you speaking your truth,” she ground out, fear guiding her words.
Ethan scoffed and raised a brow. “You want my truth? Because I don’t think you’re ready for it.” He studied her face as her heart slowed. “Fine, no more running from the truth. You hear me?”
She nodded.
“No, give me words, angel,”he said.
“No more running,” she whispered.
Ethan rubbed a thumb across her lower lip before placing a quick kiss on it. “I’m falling for you… every stubborn, intelligent, sassy, kind, and sexy part of you. I think about you night and day, and now that I’ve finally touched you, I don’t think I’ll be able to keep my hands off you.”
A puff of air slipped from between her lips before she ran her tongue across them. The thundering in her ears increased with each truth he gave her. Fighting her emotions… fighting him was futile.
Staring into his dark eyes watching her, she released her fear of being hurt. Ethan was not like any man before him. He was pure good. Sure, he frustrated her and challenged her, but he always accepted her.
“I’m falling for you too.”
Chapter 23
A week had passed since Serena confessed her feelings to Ethan. Her whispered words, if not for Ethan’s proximity to her, would have been inaudible. He had not complained. They were a step in the right direction, and he knew all too well how scary it was to admit feelings.
Thrilled to hear her truth, he had taken her mouth in a deep kiss. Screwing was the least effective word for what they did next. Their passion knew no bounds. Their hands, mouths, tongues, and limbs danced erotically until each found their explosive release.
The jingle of the bells hanging on the door rang throughout the shop when he stepped inside. He grinned from ear to ear as his memories filled him with both joy and arousal.
“Welcome to Sage Beginnings, let me—Hi, babe!” Serena called when she fully turned toward the door.
He smirked. “I thought you were closing early tonight so we could go to dinner.”
The woman was a workaholic, and he loved to tease her about it. He was there to pick her up for a dinner at Brandy and Ryan’s place.
Serena removed her phone and checked the time. “Shit, I’m sorry! I’ll be ready in a jiff.”
“What’cha got there?” he asked of the small rectangular box in her hand.
“Huh?” she muttered and looked down as he reached her.
Ethan pulled her into him, and she wound her arms around his neck.
“Oracle cards,” she managed to say before he set out to kiss every thought from her head.
“Dinner,” he said against her mouth a few minutes later, chuckling when she groaned.
She put her hands against his chest and pushed. “You can’t expect me to want to eat after kissing me like that.”
