Serena’s smile did not quite reach her eyes. “Yeah, she just startled me when I felt her hand on my back. I had some hairs there.”

“You put up your hair,” he noted aloud. He was used to her long hair flowing behind her.

She threaded her fingers with his and pulled him toward the center of the store. “Yeah, I was cleaning, and it got hot. I hate when it sticks to my skin because I’m sweating.”

“Do you need to finish anything before we head to dinner?”

Serena bounced with excitement, her skirt flowing around her legs with the movement. “Nope,” she said, popping the word on her lips.

Ethan raised a brow. “Yeah?”

“Tomorrow is another day, and you’re leaving soon, so tonight is about us. The rest can wait.”

He grinned and pulled her to him. His arms banded around her waist as his mouth came crashing down on hers. The whimpers of need that escaped her sent bolts of desire to his groin. He was not sure how this incredible woman was destined for him, but he had no complaints.

Her satisfied sigh made his heart skip a beat. “We should probably go before we skip to dessert.”

Ethan kissed her temple. “Youarethe brains of this operation.”

Serena hurried behind the counter and retrieved her small purse. Her arm banded around his waist before he could ask where she was going. “I’m glad you realize your place,” she said in return, her voice filled with amusement.

Chapter 26

“Wow!” Serena said on an exhale.

“Yeah?” Brandy asked, meeting her eyes in the mirror.

Serena nodded, her eyes becoming damp at the vision before her. Brandy stood in front of a large, three-panel dressing mirror. She had invited Serena for the final fitting and pick-up of the wedding dress she had picked, an A-line gown with a Queen Anne neckline. Delicate lace wrapped around her arms and back, giving it a sexy and modern take on the dress.

“Your brothers are going to—”

“Eh, I’m a married woman. They have to suck it up. I’m pregnant for God’s sake.” Brandy rolled of her eyes. “What do you think Ryan will say?” she asked, her voice softening with nerves.

Serena smiled and moved before her. She grabbed both of Brandy’s hands and squeezed them. “Ryan will think he died and went to heaven. You’re absolutely gorgeous on a regular day, and you’re stunning in this dress. It’s perfect!”

Brandy’s shoulders relaxed with relief. “Thank you! Andrea said almost the same thing, but—”

Serena laughed. “But you needed your husband’s ex-lover turned officiant’s approval?”

Brandy shook her head. “You got that wrong. Husband’s ex-lover turnedfriendturned high priestess turned officiant.”

A choking cough drew their attention to the wide-eyed seamstress who had returned. Her lips were parted with surprise, and Serena snorted with laughter. “Hi, sorry, it’s a long running joke,” she said, playing off their strange conversation.

Brandy, on the other hand, stood frozen, her face bright pink in contrast to her white gown. The only part of her that moved was her jaw as her mouth opened and closed.

“A joke…” the seamstress muttered before lowering to her knees at Brandy’s side.

Serena stepped back and watched the woman work quickly. It wasn’t the oddest thing she could have heard from them, she supposed.

“Are you nervous?” Serena asked, hoping to bring normalcy to the situation.

Brandy sucked in a breath and released it quickly. “Not really. I mean, I just want to make great memories and for everyone to see us marry since we—”

“Eloped?” Serena said with a grin.

The woman pushed to her feet and stared up at Brandy. “If you take off the dress, I can fix the one thing really quick, and you can take it home with you.”

Brandy nodded, and as soon as the woman exited, Serena stepped forward and unclasped the buttons hiding the zipper. They hurried to free Brandy from the dress, and the woman returned as Brandy slipped on the robe the store had provided. After a few unintelligible words, she gathered the dress and slipped back out.
