“I mean y’all are becoming friends, is that what you mean?”

“Until she helped us out with Volark, we weren’t really on speaking terms.”

“Now, tell me what made you question this. It’s not like I’ve been around you two for you to wonder,” Peter said, his arms crossed over his chest.

“We should probably call Bran over,” Ryan said.

Peter waggled his brows. “I can get her to come over…”

Ryan laughed. “Bran? Peter’s talking about making you come.”

“Keep teasing him, and I’ll let him try,” she said with a hand on her hip.

Ethan shook his head. “Eww you two, I don’t want to hear this shit.”

“What are you guys doing over here?” Brandy asked.

“Ethan’s got a dream he needed to share,” Ryan said, tucking her into his side.

Peter nodded after Ethan finished recounting his dream. “I see. Let me get this straight. First you have a vision she’s been stabbed, then poisoned, then you see Volark, then the sex dream, andnowshe’s in the hospital?”

“Serena is at the center of the attacks. You guys mentioned a tubar coming into the store after someone jacked her wards up too,” Ryan stated.

Peter tossed his hands in the air. “You guys foiled the tubar’s attempt, you had her toss the tea, the Volark sighting made all of you paranoidbutit caused her to bring me in, and the dream messed with your mind. You do realize you’ve been fighting back whoever this mysterious attacker is without trying, right?”

Ryan tapped on his cellphone raised a finger in the air. “Hi, yes. My fiancée was there earlier and can’t stop raving about the champagne you guys served. I’d love to surprise her with a bottle and was hoping you’d tell me what it was… Uh-huh… Thank you.”

His face was hard as he lowered his phone and ended the call.

“The woman said she was sorry but that they don’t serve any kind of alcohol at their store.”

Ethan turned toward Brandy. “What did the person look like?”

Chapter 28

Serena did not understand why her head was so foggy. The pain in her stomach had eased, and she vaguely remembered vomiting. She mentally reached for Ethan but could barely sense him. She wondered if he knew she was in trouble.

She forced her eyes open and noted the room was hazy. The beeping around her told her she was in a medical facility.Where’s Brandy?she wondered.

The harder she tried to recall the last twenty-four hours, the harder it became. Letting her lids close, she drifted back to sleep.

“Serena, focus on my voice,” a woman called.

This dream was unlike any others she’d had. A peaceful tranquility enveloped her as she tried to do as the woman asked.

“Child, a grave wrong has been done to you,” the woman said.

A hazy humanoid shape formed before Serena. Taking deep breaths, she focused on the image and watched as a beautiful brunette appeared before her.

“What happened to me? Where am I?” Serena asked.

“Your physical body is in a bed, fighting for survival. It’s not your time, child. You haven’t completed what you set out to do. Ethan is waiting for you to return.”

“Ethan,” Serena whispered as a saddening pain overwhelmed her. She rubbed her breastbone.

“What you feel is your other half’s agony. You must return to your body. Your adversary looms and must be taken care of. Your grandmother has asked me to tell you: ‘I didn’t only see with my eyes, I saw with my whole body.’ Good luck, child!”

The woman faded, even as Serena called to her. She needed more information, but as the peacefulness faded, rhythmic beeping drew her awake.
