“We were going to do a housewarming party, but when Ethan told us the good news, we decided an engagement celebration was in order!” Debbie said.

“Did that one dog get better?” Ethan asked as he passed Serena her bottle.

“Moose? Yeah, he’s home.” Max looked over his shoulder and lowered his voice. “I’ve found I can control my ability there rather than here.”

“Why are we whispering?” Serena whispered mockingly.

Ethan lowered his lips to her ears. “He’s having a hard time adjusting to the fact he can move things now. We’ll ignore that he holds conversations with animals every day.”

Max gave them a sheepish smile. “Have you figured out your new ability?”

Serena surprised Ethan when she told Max, “Telekinesis. Say it with me, tel-e-kin-e-sis. You need to own that shit, Max.”

“I haven’t had too many instances lately, but I’ve also not been practicing it as much. I guess you could say I manage,” Ethan said.

Serena chuckled. “Your family is hilarious—”

“Why?” Brandy asked as she and Ryan joined their small circle with Peter in tow.

“Hey, Peter!” Ethan told the werewolf and offered his hand.

“Hey, congratulations to you both!”

“Thanks!” they said in unison. Ethan lowered his lips to hers and brushed a soft kiss against them.

A resounding “aww” filled the room.

“So why is our family hilarious?” Brandy asked, curiosity filling her eyes.

Serena looked at Ryan. “Isn’t this place overflowing with magic?”

Ryan chuckled. “Sure is.”

“And the Brodericks are still in denial of their level of power. Your family is a family of witches. If you can’t talk about your powers in here, where can you?” Serena asked with her serious high priestess voice.

Max shrugged. “I guess we’re still adjusting.”

Serena stepped out of Ethan’s hold and took his brother’s hands in hers. “You don’t need to adjust to anything. Accept who you really are. You’re gifted beyond measure to work with animals. I can honestly say I’ve never met a witch with that ability. Own that shit. I can only imagine how your powers will expand if you accept yourself. We’re all here for you.”

Ethan watched her hug his brother. Her words were true, and from the expression on Max’s face, he could tell his brother needed to hear them.

“You can speak with animals?” Peter asked, his eyes bright with excitement.

Max nodded as Serena returned to Ethan.

“The only way I’ve been able to speak with a human in my wolf form was when Serena and Ethan created a temporary spell for it. What do you do?”

Max chuckled. “I’m a veterinarian, and what do you mean by wolf form?”

“Peter is the alpha of the Alumbra pack of werewolves,” Ryan told Max, pride for his best friend evident.

“Werewolves?” Carter asked, his brows knit together.

“Peter, have you met Carter?” Ethan asked, and the two men shook hands. “Peter is a werewolf.”

Carter froze, his eyes narrowing on the large man before him. “If he’s a werewolf, I must be Santa Claus.”

Ethan shook his head. Carter and Edward were the two brothers who fought their legacy more than the others. It did not surprise him to see Carter so skeptical.
