Serena swatted his arm. “You shouldn’t scare me like that! How was I to know it wasyouI just smelled? You know better!”

Peter crossed his arms over his chest. “Idoknow better, which is why I thoughtmy friendwould have told his woman I was coming by to make sure everything was safe before their arrival.”

Two sets of eyes glared at Ethan as he held up his arms in defense. “Hey! I was getting there, but we got distracted—”

“Geez, you Brodericks don’t know how to keep your hands to yourself, do you?”

Serena chuckled. “Don’t be jealous.”

“It wasn’t like that,” Ethan said.

Peter raised a brow. “Lovers’ spat. I see.”

“I just told her we should move in together,” Ethan blurted.

Peter looked up toward the apartment above them. “Kind of small for two, don’t cha think?”

“I can’t wait for you to find your mate so we can stick our noses inyourbusiness for—” Ethan paused, feeling a familiar warm tingle run along his skin. His head grew hot as a spirit shoved him aside.

Ethan was no longer in control of his body. He was but a passenger.

“Peter Rawly, alpha to the Alumbra Pack,” the woman’s soft voice stated.

Peter startled. “Yes?”

“It’s hard watching others bond while you still haven’t found your mate.”

Peter’s jaw tensed, but he nodded.

“She is out there, but it is not time. First you must help the air chall.”

“Mo phàiste,”the woman said, turning Ethan’s body toward Serena.

“Grandmother?” Serena asked and sighed. “Did Ethan agree to this?”

He shrugged. “Sometimes it’s easier removing the middleman,” she said.

“This,” Peter said with a wave. “Is your grandma?”

“I must be quick, as your mate is becoming rather impatient with my use of his body.”

Ethan inwardly nodded and watched with amusement as Serena gave them a “no shit” look.

“You will be performing the human wedding ritual. Bless them with the—”

“Eannechd òsaid easibh?Yes, Grandmother, I remember the importance of the ancient marriage spell. Why did you really come?”

“The stubborn alpha needed a pep talk. I must go.”

“Grandmother, that was rather rude!” Serena said and sent Peter an apologetic smile.

Ethan shook his head as Serena’s grandmother left. “I really wish they gave me a warning before they did that.”

Serena laughed. “I’m pretty sure Grandmother used to say that all the time, and yet she just body-snatched you.”

“Glad she remembers,” Ethan said and shook his head.

“What’s wrong, Peter?”
