His brows knit as he stared at them a moment. “What doesair challmean?”

“Lost, I think?”

Peter nodded and tucked Serena into his side. “Really glad you’re okay,” he muttered against her hair before kissing it. “I better go.”

After a quick handshake and a pound to Ethan’s back, Peter started for the door. “For the record, I’m not sure I want to find my mate after seeing all the trouble they cause.”

Ethan flicked a finger and watched the door unlock and open. “See you later, buddy,” Ethan called and locked the door once more.

“Good thing he likes me now,” Serena stated and wound her arm around his waist.

“Yeah, good thing he’s always liked me. He’s also not wrong. Your apartment would feel too small over some time, as would mine.”

“I never said moving into our own place was a bad idea,” she said as they released each other to go upstairs.

Ethan swatted her round behind as it swayed in front of him. He smiled when she giggled in response. “Let’s take a peek and see what options are available now. We’re not in a rush, but it would be nice to find it before we make that ring on your finger permanent.”

Chapter 36

“Permanent?” she asked, pausing on the top step. “Did you have plans to ask for it back?”

Serena turned at Ethan’s annoyed sigh. She could not believehewas annoyed at her, whenhewas the one to insinuate their engagement was not permanent.

“Ah!” Serena squealed before she could think more on the matter.

“I say this with all the love in the world: shut up,” Ethan stated as her stomach bounced off his shoulder.

She whined and threatened him the entire time he stepped through her apartment, with her on his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Just as she raised a finger to use magic, he tossed her onto the center of her bed. A strand of hair fell across her forehead and fluttered with her exhale.

“Seriously, Ethan—” Whatever else she planned on saying became stuck in her throat.

His eyes were the darkest she had ever seen them as he lowered a knee onto the mattress. His hair was a mess and in need of a haircut, but at that moment, it made him look dangerous and sinfully sexy at the same time.

His second knee pressed into the mattress, and little by little, he crawled over her until she lay flat. His next words came out thick and gravelly, and her thighs squeezed tight. “When I asked you to marry me, it wasn’t a joke or spur of the moment. I’ve known you were special since the moment we met, and I fought it stupidly for a long time. These last couple of weeks have been utter hell without you,” he said and grabbed her left hand. He adjusted the diamond on her finger before kissing her knuckle. “I need you in my life, and marrying you is the permanent solution to the problem. I love you, you stubborn, fierce, and crazy witch, so will we or will we not find our own place?”

Serena’s heart pounded against her breastbone. Ethan was normally quiet and reserved, but in that moment, he showed her his aggressive side. She did not fear it, not even in the slightest, because she knew without a doubt this man would never hurt her. If anything, her body was reacting to this version of him and liked it a hell of a lot.

Sliding a hand up his forearm and past his bicep to his shoulder, she enjoyed each muscle tensing under her touch. His gaze flicked to her mouth, and her tongue slid across her lower lip. Serena pushed her left leg out and then her right, watching as Ethan adjusted so she could move.

“Did you hear a word of what I just said?” he asked, his voice thick with need.

She hooked his waist with one leg and then the other. “I did,” she said and pulled him down onto her.

Ethan dropped to his elbows as their centers met. She could not stop her smirk when she rolled her hips to get closer to his jean-clad erection. His groan made her tighten, wishing he filled her in that moment.

“Serena,” he warned.

“First things first, I like it when you’re bossy—in bed. Let me clarify that: in bed. Now, how about you make love to me until I’m thoroughly fucked, then you can bring me that cup of tea you promised, and afterward we can look at houses. I’m open to living near your family. Oh, we also need to—”

Serena wrapped her arms around his neck when he kissed her deeply. Each caress of his tongue knocked away another thought, until all she could think of was Ethan. He filled her with more joy and love than she could have imagined.

His long fingers tugged at her skirt, and she raised her hips to help him lower the material. Wiggling back and forth, she freed herself. He did not break their kiss, devouring her as his fingertips skimmed over her naked hip. She parted her thighs as far as they would go, inviting him where she needed his touch.

Serena nibbled on his lower lip as he ran a finger along her opening. As much as Ethan was calm and collected out of the bedroom, he was passionate and determined to tease the hell out of her tonight.

“Ethan…” Her voice was needy and breathless. She did not care how wanton she sounded, not with Ethan.

“Hmm?” he muttered down her neck, now that she had broken their kiss.
