Peter tossed his arms into the air. “What do you mean you don’t fucking know?”
“Hey!” Brandy snapped from where she sat on Ryan’s lap.
Ethan shook his head. “I’m sorry, Peter. I can only tell you what I’m shown.”
“Earlier when she… you know… She said my mate is out there, but first I need to help the lost. How the hell am I supposed to find my mate if the lost come first but no one can point me in the right direction to help them?”
Brandy stood and rushed to Peter. Serena was surprised to see how easily the woman grabbed him by the face, forcing their eyes to meet. Her words were too quiet to discern, but whatever she said seemed to calm the alpha werewolf.
Ryan watched on with varying emotions, not one of which was jealousy. It was obvious to Serena that the three had formed separate bonds of love, romantic and familial in a way many fail to do.
“Whatever you need, we’ll be there to help,” Serena announced. She had not bothered to consult Ethan on the matter, as she had already witnessed the friendship between the men.
Peter had stood by them, and nothing would stop her from doing the same.
“You’re not doing this alone,” Brandy declared. “Now, I think it’s time we go join the guests and celebrate the fact I’m a married woman!”
Chapter 41
Ethan peppered Serena’s face with kisses. Her sweet giggles were reserved for him, and his chest swelled with pride. When they’d met months ago, she was a scary badass witch. She still was, but now she was a scary badass witch who belonged to him.
He grabbed her left hand and pressed her ring to his lips. “I love you, Serena Bishop.”
Her smile lit the room. “I love you too!”
The barrier she wore around her had come down in their time together. He was a lucky man to be on the receiving end of her affections. He would spend the rest of his life making sure she never doubted his love or loyalty.
“Aja’s been resolved, and my family’s safe—”
Serena groaned and swatted him in the chest.
“What?”
She shook her head. “Why? Why did you just jinx everyone?”
Ethan raised a brow. “Superstitious, are we?”
“Ethan Broderick. We’re witches. It’s always best if we don’t tempt fate. The goddess has her hands full as it is and doesn’t need us creating extra trouble.”
Ethan sighed as he gathered her against his side and ran a thumb over her bare hip. “There’s still so much about this world I need to learn.”
“I’ll always be here to help you figure it out,” she said, her voice soft with sleepiness.
He was not sure how long he lay awake, her warning tumbling in his mind. Ethan hoped he had not brought more to their lives now that things had finally settled. His latest experience with a spirit came to mind.
Why had Peter’s message been so important?he wondered before sleep finally pulled him under.
“Ethan, dear, I owe you an apology,” a voice said before a beautiful woman stepped through a shimmering curtain. Her long, dark hair was straight and lay just past her shoulders. Her high cheek bones highlighted her bright, green eyes, which twinkled with amusement.
“I know you,” he stated. Ethan did not know where he had met her, but deep in his bones, he knew it was true.
Her full lips pulled into a smirk as she gave him a once-over. “I couldn’t have picked a better choice for her.”
Before her words finished repeating in his mind, he found himself grinning. He gave her a respectful nod. “You’re Serena’s grandmother.”
“I am. I never should have taken over your body without your permission. A perfect opportunity for a lesson doesn’t release me from my bad manners.”
“A lesson?”
