“Bigger? How’s that? You just told a human about our world?”

He ignored her words and smirked. “You know all about my family?”

“Yeah, for the most part.”

“Do you know about Ethan’s ability?”

Georgia cleared her throat. “He can see the future or some shit?”

“It’s more complicated than that. Sometimes he’s used as a vessel by ancestors needing to pass on a message.”

“Creepy,” she mumbled.

He nodded, even though she could not see it. Ethan’s ability was constantly adapting, and he agreed with Georgia’s sentiment. “Well, look, tonight he not only confirmed Vanessa and I are soul mates, but her curious nature has landed her onsomeone’sradar.”

If not for the seriousness of the situation, Carter would have laughed at the creative string of swear words Georgia tossed out. A man stepped out of a car and moved toward Vanessa’s building. Carter leaned forward, hugging the steering wheel to his chest as he watched.

“Carter?” Georgia snapped, her tone letting him know she had called his name a few times.

“Hold on,” he said and watched the man let himself in the apartment below Tyler’s. He sucked in a breath and leaned back in his seat. “Sorry, just needed to see where someone was going.”

“Wait a minute. Are you still at her apartment complex?”

“Yeah. I’m in my car watching over her.”

“You realize how stalkerish that sounds, right?”

His brows pinched with frustration. “What the hell would you have me do, Georgia? Someone’s after her, and she’s fucking vulnerable to our world. She refused to stay at my place, and I can’t let anything happen to her.”

“This is why I hope I never meet my mate,” she muttered.

“That’s messed up, considering we both know your males can’t have sex until they do.”

“Not my problem.”

His phone beeped, alerting him of an incoming call. “Let me call you back. Someone’s calling.”

He noted the caller ID and answered. “Hey, Peter.”

“Yo,” he said by way of greeting. “Brandy called. Seems you Brodericks can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Congrats on finding your mate.”

“Thanks.”

“Now, how can I help? I hear someone’s coming after her, but we don’t know who,” Peter said.

Carter gave Peter a rundown of everything, exhaustion setting in after repeating the story once more.

“So, we have a human soul mate this time, now she knows about our world, and because she opened her mouth at the wrong time, someone’s got her on their radar. Fuck, y’all really need to find your mates in less dramatic ways.”

“No shit…”

“What’s her name?”

“Vanessa Rayne.”

Peter made a noise on the other end of the line. “Rayne. Vanessa Rayne. Why does that sound familiar?”

He sighed, knowing he would be getting another earful. “Georgia?”
