“God, she’d be beautiful round with my baby in her,”he said.
“What?” she asked, her wide eyes staring at him.
He opened his mouth and shut it once before smiling down at her. Carter caressed her cheek with his thumb. “If you want the pill, we’ll get it. You… pregnant with my child? It doesn’t scare me, sweetheart. Sure, a pregnancy right now would be a little inconvenient, but it’s a blessing I wouldn’t turn away.”
Chapter 27
Her mouth did not seem to work. Her brain had a lot to say on the matter of pregnancy.
I’m not ready. We still need to get to know each other. I’m too young. Holy shit, he’s not scared. Oh my God, I’m freaking out.
Then her heart jumped in.
He’s ours, and everything will work out like it’s supposed to.
The strongest pull and the trump card-holder was her heart. Something told her, her brain would catch up as soon as it was done having a mini stroke.
“You done freaking out yet?” he asked as he pushed to his feet. He had been lathering her body, cleaning her from the mess of their lovemaking as she stood like a pod person.
Vanessa shook her head. “Nope.”
He chuckled. “Fair enough,” he said before turning her back to the warm spray. His fingers dug in her hair, massaging her scalp as he rinsed the conditioner out. “So, I’m sure it will take some getting used to, but this telepathic thing isn’t as bad as I thought.”
“Mhmm…” she muttered, losing herself in the relaxing sensation of being pampered by this strong and tender man. Her man.
“I’ve caught some thoughts while we cleaned up, but I have a strong feeling there’s more rattling around in here,” he said, his finger tapping the side of her head.
The water pounded at her back when he stepped away to wash himself. Part of her wanted to do it for him, but in that moment, she could not find the energy or focus. The electric spark she always felt in his presence had calmed some, but pregnancy fears aside, she felt different.
“Do you feel… off?” she blurted, her anxiety pressing on her chest.
Carter paused and looked up from his thigh where he was scrubbing. “Off?”
“I must sound crazy,”she said.
Glancing down, she noticed he moved faster to finish washing his lower body. When he stood to his full height, her gaze followed his hands as they ran along his length and testicles. She’d just had two life-altering orgasms, and suddenly her sex wept for more of his attention.
“Sweetheart, if you keep looking at my dick like that, I won’t be able to answer your question because I’ll be balls deep in you.”
She sucked in a breath, and her thighs pressed together to alleviate the ache building down below. “Sorry—um…”
He shifted them so he was under the spray, and the suds slid down his body and to the drain. “I don’t think you’re crazy at all. The telepathic bond is different, and it’s strange to hear you but not see your lips move. I’m sure we’ll get used to it in time.”
She bit her lip, wishing the right words would come to her. Carter shut off the water and wrapped her in a fluffy towel before drying himself. Once the droplets were off both their bodies, he linked their fingers and pulled her back into the bed.
The silence was comfortable, and when he drew her into his side, holding her close to him, he finally spoke. “Outside, the sparks we saw in the air were neat when we became bonded by magic. In here though, it was…”
“Different,” she whispered.
Carter shifted onto his elbow and covered her legs with one of his own. “The sparks weren’t in the air. They were in your eyes and then your pupils dilated a moment later, unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my medical profession. To be honest, it scared the shit out of me.”
“It did?” she asked.
He nodded and lowered his mouth to hers. “It really did. The orgasm in here was insane. I’ve never come like that, but I have this… feeling? I don’t know how to explain it, but something changed in here. Likeyouchanged.”
“Me?” she whispered, still unable to sound like the intelligent woman she prided herself to be.
“Yes, sweetheart. Do you feel different?”
