He rushed toward the bedroom, smiling like an idiot. The woman had just shown her possessive side, and his dick approved.

Chapter 35

“Girl, you realize he’s all yours, right?”

Blood rushed through her ears, making the words muffled but loud enough she could make them out. A strange sensation coursed through her as her body vibrated with the desire to string Georgia up by the ankles.

A growl vibrated through the room. “Vanessa!”

She met Georgia’s eyes, noting they glowed yellow, nearly a golden color. A part of Vanessa knew this was her best friend who would never hurt her. The other part of her demanded she pay for the way she had drunk Carter in.

When he returned to the room, they had not made any progress. Well, that was not true. The arches to the room were decorated with beautiful vines and wildflowers.

Carter’s chest blocked Georgia, obstructing Vanessa’s view in the standoff. He grabbed her face and crushed his mouth to hers. Love, desire, and truth poured into her. She reached out and grabbed onto the polo he’d changed into, her body swaying with the force of his kiss.

The tension in her body lessened, and he pressed his forehead to hers. “I belong to you.”

Any lingering anger and jealousy melted from her. “Shit…” She rolled her eyes at the arrogant smirk tipping his lips. “Shut up.” She groaned and stepped around him. “Georgia?”

“I’m not sure, are you going to attack me with more jungle?”

“Sorry.”

Georgia shook her head. “Girl, you know I’d never go after what was yours, not that I ever could with this one. Carter has eyes only for you. I was simply admiring the view.”

Vanessa’s shoulders slumped. “Iknow!Something just came over me…”

“Damn soul mates. Nuh uh, I don’t want anything to do with that shit,” Georgia said, offering Vanessa a hug.

She wrapped her arms around her best friend and soaked in the comfort. “Seriously, I’m so sorry. I couldn’t snap out of it.”

Georgia stepped back. “Clearly.”

Carter wrapped an arm around her waist, claiming her once she was clear of Georgia. “So, would you like to tell us what warranted such an early visit? I’m sure it had nothing to do with me or watching Vanessa lose control.”

“Yeah, what’s going on?” Vanessa asked.

Georgia moved around them and dropped into the chair next to the couch. “Peter had me on a run—we’re struggling to find the other Sivella compound—and as soon as I got back, he gave me an update. So the person after you is a demon?”

“Yeah.”

Georgia nodded. “And you’re not going to address the fact that since I saw you last, you’re clearly no longer a human?”

Vanessa opened her mouth and closed it before laughing. “So much has happened since we last talked.”

“Clearly. So, how’d you tap into your nymph side?”

Her eyes rounded and then narrowed. “How the hell did you know?”

Georgia tapped her nose. “Nymphs are rare. Other than your mom, I’ve only come across two others, now three with you.”

“You knew?” Vanessa whispered. She wanted to be pissed it had been kept from her. Not only her mother but her best friend had kept the information to themselves.

Carter guided her to the couch. “Sweetheart, no one wanted to keep secrets from you.”

She looked at him through blurry eyes, tears threatening to fall. “I get it, but it doesn’t stop it from hurting.”

Georgia slipped to the floor and took her hand. “No more secrets, I promise. That was the last thing. It wasn’t my place to say anything about your mom, and you just never showed any signs.”
