“Speaking of which, we should probably head over to James’s. I bet Andrea still cooked for an army even though we weren’t sure if we’d be done in time.” Brandy looked at Joel and Georgia. “You two are joining us, right?”

“I—” they said in unison.

“If I’m part of this family…” She looked at Carter for confirmation before continuing. “Then so are they.”

Ryan chuckled. “She definitely belongs in this family.”

Chapter 38

The last thing Carter wanted to do was surround himself with family. He was eager to take Vanessa to bed and show her over and over again how much he loved her. Of course, he also knew there was no backing out of family dinner.

They made their appearance and ate delicious food, and once everyone had a chance to praise Vanessa for doing so well against Olsabir, he whisked her away. Thankfully, Peter had offered to drive Georgia to the house for her car.

As soon as the door shut behind them, he started ripping off their clothes. Carter took her against a wall in the foyer, on the couch, and atop the kitchen island. He drew out each orgasm, enjoying every pulse, scream, and declaration of love they shared.

Somehow, they made it into the shower for their last round of lovemaking. He would never forget the way she looked on her knees with her lips wrapped around his dick and her eyes wide and sparkling.

On shaky legs, they cleaned themselves before he managed one last burst of energy and carried her to bed. His heart had finally stopped racing, and his lungs found their natural rhythm.

Carter ran a hand over her hip as she curled into his side. “Car?” she muttered, her breath tickling his chest.

“Hmm?”

“Am I really safe?”

With his free hand, he tilted her chin until their eyes locked. “As far as I’m concerned you are. I’d die before any harm ever came to a single hair on your body.”

She shook her head. “Nothing would ever touch either of us so long as we have each other.”

He grinned. “You belong to me, and I to you. My love for you is never ending.”

“I love you,” she declared and brushed a kiss on his mouth.

“I’m so glad I was at the hospital when you brought Tyler in.”

“Me too, I just wish we could have kept him safe,” she whispered as her eyes misted.

His heart clenched at her guilt. “It wasn’t your fault. Peter told me Tyler had got in with some people he shouldn’t have. His death had nothing to do with Olsabir looking for you.”

Relief flashed in her eyes before she laid her cheek on his chest. He ran his fingers through her hair as she gave in to exhaustion.

He realized then he was in heaven.

There was no other explanation for it. The peace he felt with her tucked into his limp and satiated body was indescribable. Vanessa, whom he would do absolutely anything for and had the biggest heart, was his mate, his partner, his everything.
