She shut her eyes at the image. “Oh, gross! I really don’t need that kind of visual.”
His breath tickled her neck with laughter. “No, I’d much rather have you imagining us naked.”
Her answering moan should have made her blush. Mia’s body lit up at his suggestive words. Her thighs pressed together, hoping to stave off the building pressure. She wouldn’t be surprised if her panties were soaked with need for the maddening man.
“When you respond like that, and I haven’t even kissed you, it makes it really hard to walk you home.”
She turned before her gaze dropped to the evident erection pressing against the zipper of his pants. It was his turn to groan as her heart beat erratically against her ribs. Mia bit her lip and made a split-second decision.
“Where’s your apartment?” she asked.
He studied her face for so long, she wondered if he had heard her. Electrical pulses ran along her skin as they stood on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant. Everything from the past seventy-two hours seemed to slip away. On one hand, none of it really mattered, but on the other, it had all led them to this moment.
His throat bobbed as he swallowed. “What are you asking exactly, baby?”
Sucking in a breath, she pushed back her shoulders. “I need you… Take us to whichever place is closer.”
He nodded but didn’t move a muscle, confusing her. What man remained rooted to the spot when a woman offered herself sexually?
“Are you sure? Because we can continue down the slow—”
Mia pressed her fingers against his lips. “I was ready a few nights ago, before everything went to shit, Edward. Don’t make us fucking wait any longer.”
He kissed her fingers and removed them. “There you go, dropping the F-bomb again.” He chuckled.
“How’s this… I want you to take me home and fuck me senseless. Now, do you think you can get a move on?” she asked, ready to burst with need.
Someone nearby gasped, but before she could become embarrassed, his lips crushed hers. They were firm and tingled with the union of their magic. It was a kiss filled with wants, needs, and unfulfilled dreams.
When Edward ended the delicious onslaught, he moved his mouth to her ear. His tongue flicked the shell, and a shiver ran down her body. “I can definitely fuck you senseless, but that’s not happening tonight.”
He grabbed her hand and dragged her to his car as a myriad of emotions hit her. Confusion and disappointment rushed to the forefront at his admission they wouldn’t have sex. Where the hell was he hauling her off to?
“Edward?” she asked, before his dark eyes met hers.
Desire and need flashed in his, sending another wave of raw energy to her core. Edward grunted. His heavy breaths and manhandling told her more than any words could.
After helping her into his car, he rounded the hood in a jog. He had the car on and moving in a series of jerky but quick movements. No one spoke in the car. His hand gripped her thigh as he drove with his left hand.
A few minutes later, Edward pulled into a garage and shut off the engine. “Are you sure, Mia?”
She wasn’t sure of much except for one thing: Edward. The last time she did not trust him, she screwed things up.
When the words would not come, she nodded and pulled his face to hers. She told him with her tongue that she was in if it involved him. He had already said he would not fuck her senseless, and as much of a disappointment that was, she just wanted him any way she could get him.
“I’ll take that for now, but in a few minutes, I want your words,” he muttered against her lips before pulling back.
She did not wait for him to come around the car. After jogging to him, she linked her fingers with his and let him pull her along. She barely kept up with his long strides and was relieved when the elevator doors opened before they reached it. A handsome man in his forties, or maybe fifties, stepped out and flashed her a grin.
Edward’s answering growl made the man’s brows snap up in surprise.“Mine.”
Mia should have been turned off by his possession, but it only drove on her desire. She had no clue what lay ahead, but the way her magic pushed her closer to him told her she was doing the right thing.
For a moment, as they ascended to his floor, she wondered how witch mates compared to those of werewolves. She had known about the existence of soul mates, but it was clear a lot of information had been left out.
A bell chimed, announcing their arrival on the tenth floor. When the doors opened, her eyes widened. She had never been in an apartment building with such a luxurious space. Chrome accents and a beautiful spray of lilies, roses, and carnations drew her attention to her left. The wooden table it sat on shined with its last polish and fancy legs.
Tearing her eyes from the decorations, she noted the few doors ahead of them. It was clear to her the apartments were large. Edward pushed her against the second door to the left, his body vibrating with his magic.
