“You totally forgot a bunch of times, didn’t you?” she asked, her brows raised, daring him to deny it.

Edward chuckled and turned his car into his brother’s neighborhood. “Maybe.”

Mia slapped her thigh with her free hand, her breasts bouncing with the little jump. “I knew it!”

“I travel for work, and well, some of the times it fell to me, I was busy worrying about my clients and not what I should order for the family. If it’s any consolation, I paid for their turn when I forgot.”

“Sweet Lord, I can’t imagine how much it costs to feed the Broderick Coven,” she muttered quietly.

Edward took in the homes as they drove down the street. He couldn’t imagine Mia in any of them. It only reminded him he needed to search for the cabin he had been shown. “Money doesn’t matter to us if it means we can spend time together. It was one thing Dad always insisted on before he died. We’ve always been a close family, so we didn’t have a reason to stop the tradition.”

“Sounds like a crazy loud time,” she said jokingly and squeezed the hand that held hers.

“That it is.”

Before they could speak more on it, he pointed two houses down on the right. “That’s their place.”

Mia chuckled. “Let me guess, all these cars are your family?”

Edward glanced around, identifying most of the vehicles he saw and nodded. “Yeah, most of them. That SUV up there I’ve not seen before,” he said before snapping his fingers. “It might be Peter.”

“Peter?”

“Yeah, the werewolf?”

“Wait, Peter Rawley… As in the Alumbra Pack alpha comes to your family dinners?” Mia asked, her eyes wide with surprise.

“Yeah, wasn’t he at the wedding?” Edward asked, surprised at her reaction.

“Um… no? I’m sure I would have remembered seeinghimthere.”

Edward faced her, his back straightening. “Have you had a problem with him? Has he bothered you in some way?”

The idea of anyone messing with Mia caused a spark to run along his skin. No one would ever cause Mia any discomfort now that she was his. Thinking on the werewolf, Edward could not imagine Peter being a threat to her after the way he treated the women in the family.

“Oh, no. I’ve never actually spoken with him.”

He shook his head. “I don’t get it.”

Mia sighed and rolled her neck. “Witches and werewolves don’t mingle, Edward.”

He narrowed his eyes. “And yet you’re willing to hire Claudia, who I’m sure you’ve noticed is a werewolf.”

She shook her head and sighed heavily. “I’m aware of it. Claudia is different. She’s nice and I don’t expect her to lose control.”

“And you expect Peter to? I’m not sure you’re qualified to make that assessment without even speaking to the man,” Edward said.

Mia bit her lower lip and peered at the house. “You’re right. I’m not being fair to him. I promise I’m not being an ass about this. You need to understand witches rarely ever mingle with werewolves. With everything I’ve ever seen or heard, I know the Alumbra Pack keeps their shit together. I should give Peter respect, knowing he’s kept his pack in line.”

Edward nodded, letting her words process. When he opened his door, Mia stopped him from exiting the car with a hand on his forearm. He met her eyes and noted the worry marring the delicate skin of her face.

“Why would he behere?” she asked.

He studied her a moment before saying, “He’s Ryan and Brandy’s best friend.”

Mia’s eyes rounded, and her full lips formed an O. The reaction lasted only a second, but he did not miss it. After her words, he was not surprised by her reaction. She gave him a nod in understanding and released him.

He met her at the front of the car and took the fernlike plant from her hands. She had called it a Sansevieria, and he still had no idea what it was supposed to mean to him. They walked toward the house in silence, with their fingers linked.
