Joel shrugged as he chuckled. “Calling it as I see it. I’ve never seen so many witches getting themselves in trouble.”
“You weren’t even there for my mess, so shut your trap,” Brandy snapped, affection clear on her face.
“No, because Boss disappeared to do the job himself.”
Claudia chuckled. “Why’d we bother calling you in?”
“Make sure to grab some food before you head back out,” Debbie ordered.
He nodded and faced Mia. “It was great meeting you.”
She sat again as he hurried to the kitchen, realizing she had a lot of information to correct when it came to werewolves.
The women changed the course of their conversation. She listened and added to the discussion as needed. They were kind, funny, and the love they shared for one another was clear to Mia. Pulling the layers of human, witch, and werewolf back, they were women who would fight for each other.
Mia had never been around such a group.
“Everything okay?”Edward asked.
She found him surrounded by his brothers on the other side of the room.“Yeah, just noticing how strong of a bond these women have.”
He smiled.“Yeah, they are a fierce bunch, and from what I can see, you’ve been accepted in like I knew you would.”
“Well, I already adored Brandy, Vanessa, and Serena. The others won’t take too much more to love,”she told him.
“Hey!” Brandy snapped. “You can talk to him later. This is girl time!”
Mia laughed. “Isn’t this supposed to be family time?”
Serena scoffed. “Hell no. This is our time as a family, sure, but it gives us a break fromthem.”
The women burst into laughter, and Gia, who’d been asleep in Andrea’s arms, began to fuss.
“Aww, look what y’all did,” Mia said and ran a finger down the baby’s chubby leg.
“Uh-oh, I think someone has baby fever!” Serena announced.
Mia froze and let her eyes wander the women. They were staring with big grins on their faces. “Um, what?”
Brandy grabbed her daughter and settled her on a breast to feed. “Do you want kids?”
“Kids?” she muttered.
“Yeah. The adorably sweet moochers who don’t let you sleep,” Brandy said, her eyes on Gia and a smile lighting up her face.
Vanessa laughed. “You’re not exactly drawing us to the dark side with that sort of statement.”
“Well, it’s true,” Brandy muttered before brushing her lips on Gia’s fist. “And I wouldn’t change a damn thing, except for maybe having waited a little longer.”
Mia glanced from her to Ryan.“Edward, how long have Brandy and Ryan been together?”
“A year? I’m not really sure. Gia was born in May, and they weren’t together long before becoming pregnant,”he said.
“Come on, Mia,” Claudia teased. “Doyou want kids?”
She took in the group and shrugged. “Honestly? I’ve never thought about it. I was an only child, and my parents are great, but I’ve never considered having a kid of my own.”
Debbie patted her knee and smiled. “Nothing says you have to be a mom, or can be for that matter.”
