“Mia? Honey?” Vanessa called.

The door chimed with another customer, saving her from facing the bunch. The area before her she’d been cleaning seemed to sparkle within minutes of having an internal battle. She set her thoughts on the back burner and offered the group a sad smile before forcing a brighter one for an older woman holding a bouquet of the fresh flowers.

“Hi! Do you need help finding anything else, or will those be it?”

“Just these, please,” the woman said and set the bouquet on the counter once the others moved aside. “I was out for my evening stroll, and these made me feel happy, so I thought, why not?”

Mia smiled. “Good for you! I’m so glad they brightened up your evening.”

“Thank you. I’ll be sure to tell my friends about this shop,” she said and glanced around with her purchase in hand. “You have beautiful arrangements.”

“Aww, thank you so much!” Mia walked her to the door and felt the three pairs of eyes on her back.

“You might as well lock up, because it’s past closing, and we want you to join us for girls’ night out,” Brandy stated.

Mia spun on her heels and faced them. “On one condition,” she said and gave them each her no-nonsense face. “No talk about mates.”

“Mates in general or just yours? Because if Ethan calls, I can’t exactly ignore him,” Serena stated.

Mia crossed her arms. “Are you telling me you can’t ignore his calls and texts for a few hours?”

The three women burst into laughter.

“If only it were that easy,” Vanessa muttered.

“Right? I swear there are moments I wish I could shut Ryan out.”

“Huh?” she muttered, her head swinging back and forth between them all.

“You do know we have a telepathic connection with our mates, right?” Serena asked, taking Mia in.

She thought back to when Edward had mentioned it, and she wished she had asked him more on the matter. “Well, Edward kind of mentioned it but told me to talk to you guys.”

“Right… Well, how about we get out of here and we can tell you more over some sugary drinks?” Brandy asked.

“I need to close up first. It’s been crazy every day, and if I don’t, I won’t be ready for tomorrow,” she told her.

Brandy nodded as she smirked. “Seems whateverhesuggested helped?”

Mia raised a finger. “Nope, he doesnotget all the credit here. I’m the one who’s been busting my ass making arrangements and rearranging shit.”

“Sorry,” Brandy said with her hands up in surrender. “What do you need to do?”

“The floors, register, and I need to make sure I have things growing for tomorrow,” she said.

“Serena and Vanessa can clean up. You do the register, and if you tell me what to grow, I’ll get that going,” Brandy said, her work face in place.

“You grow?” Mia asked, confusion clouding her eyes.

“Broom? Mop and bucket?” Serena asked.

Mia pointed toward the back. “That closet.”

“Come on, and I’ll show you some ofmymagic tricks.” Brandy grinned.

Chapter 11

“What do you buy a woman when you can’t get her flowers?” Edward blurted to Ethan when he answered the call.
