Energy crackled around them. She had never experienced anything quite like this kiss. Needing to gulp in air, she pulled back and met his gaze. Raw desire stared back in his eyes, and she wondered if he saw the same in hers.

“Mia,” he whispered and pressed his lips to her forehead.

The tenderness made her heart expand, and another piece fell into his camp. He pulled her close, and she pressed her cheek to his chest. She smiled at the feel of his heart racing against her face. He was as affected by the kiss as she was.

She did not want to break the moment, but she realized another customer could come through at any instant. “Edward?”

“Yeah, baby?”

She smiled at the word and let herself revel in it before she cleared her throat. “I need to close up, or more people will come in.”

He nodded against the top of her head before pulling back. “Tell me how I can help.”

Chapter 13

He hated letting her go.

She lined up perfectly with his body. They fit just right. With their kisses fresh on his mind, his dick was as hard as a rock. His body and magic begged for them to unite in the most sacred and carnal of ways.

It was far too soon for that. He had managed to screw things up often, and pushing for sex too soon was one mistake he would not make. Plus, he was still unsure about the telepathic connection that would arise from their union.

She was his soul mate, of that he was completely sure. The way his body buzzed at her nearness, let alone the sparks he felt when their mouths had come together, was proof of it. Everything was plain as day as far as Mia being his.

After their kiss, he helped her close and clean up before kissing her one more time and forcing himself to leave. It had been one of the hardest things to do, but it was for the best.

His cell phone vibrated on the desk next to his keyboard. He grabbed it before leaning back. “Hello.”

“How’d it go? Did she love it? Did she forgive you? She wasn’t allergic to any of it, was she?” Debbie rattled off the questions in quick succession.

Edward chuckled. “Hi, Debs. I’m picking her up tonight for dinner, so yeah, I’d say it worked, and no, she didn’t mention any allergies.” He pulled his phone away from his ear at her high-pitched squeal of excitement. “Ouch!”

“Sorry! I’m so excited for you! Seriously, Eddie. You are such a great guy, and I just want you to be happy.”

“I didn’t realize I had to be with a woman to be happy,” he grumbled.

“Or a man. I really don’t care.”

He paused before shaking his head. “Nope, dicks just don’t do it for me.”

“Well, for the record, I can’t think of anyone among us who would care.”

“Good to know, but that’s still a nope for me.”

Debbie laughed. “Where are you taking her?”

“I was thinking the steak house—”

“No. All of you always pick that damn steak house. It’s good—don’t get me wrong—but come on. Do you think Mia is a steak and potatoes kind of girl?”

He pursed his lips in thought and sighed. “Shit, you’re right.”

“I’m always right.”

He laughed. “I’m sure you think so. Have any ideas on where to take her?”

“I could give you a list of ideas, but honestly, Brandy or Vanessa or even Serena may have a better idea,” she said, and he dropped his head back on his chair with a groan. “They’re going to find out anyway.”

He stared at the ceiling. “I know. I just—”
