“You look perfect. Anything you would have picked would have been the right answer. You may want to grab a light sweater, as there’s a slight chill in the air tonight.”

Mia grabbed a cardigan from the front closet, and they moved toward the staircase that led to her apartment above the shop. “Anything would have worked? So, nothing at all would have worked with the restaurant’s dress code?”

Edward stumbled. “Mia, I don’t need any help imagining you naked. I’m trying to be a gentleman here…”

She giggled and took his hand, threading their fingers together. “Sorry, not sorry…”

Edward groaned and helped her down the steep stairs, then down to his car parked behind the building. His cologne teased her senses with each breath she took. Being next to him was right. Adjusting to the fact was not as hard as she would have expected.

There was some crazy reason the goddess had paired them as mates, and she needed to trust in her. Based on their initial less-than-pleasant reactions to each other, she could have run off. His sweet and endearing apologizes proved there was a good heart in there.

“So where are you taking me?” she asked as he walked them to a sleek red sedan.

His boyish grin made her smile. “It’s a surprise.”

Edward opened her door, and she slid onto the soft leather. It was clean and smelled new, making her wonder how long he had owned it.

“How was your day?” he asked, slipping behind the wheel.

“Busy! I can’t believe how many people have been coming in. Thank you for those suggestions. Which I have to ask, how did you know?”

A light blush crept into his cheeks as he shrugged. “You have earth, and I just know some things…”

“Wait, you’re saying it’syourmagic?”

He peeked at her as he slowed for a stop sign. “Yeah.”

Mia turned in her seat to face him. “How does that work? What is it?”

“I used to think I was lucky for others—”

“For others? You mean it doesn’t work for your personal life?”

He chuckled and raised a brow. “Do you think I’d have stuck my foot in my mouth as many times as I already have ifIwas lucky?”

Mia laughed. “No, I suppose not.”

“The family doesn’t think it’s luck. Ethan says it’s his sister gift. He sees, and I have intuition.”

“Oh…yeah those two would definitely pair up.”

Edward turned left onto Ninth Street, and Mia peered around, trying to figure out where they were going. Her stomach growled then. “Sorry,” she muttered.

His smile lit up his face. “Hungry?”

“I might have missed lunch.” She shrugged. “Okay, back to how you knew what to tell me to fix.”

“Just that,” he said. “As I walked up to your shop, I justknewthe things that needed to be changed. I could feel the familiar tingle of magic as I passed the information along to you.”

“That’s it?” she asked incredulously.

He laughed. “I know. My gift isn’t as neat as growing entire gardens or calling all the elements, or speaking with animals…”

“Is that what you do in business?”

He nodded. “It is. I helped some people early on, and next thing I knew, I was helping their friends and friends of friends. People pay me to help them improve their businesses or to help them make those choices.”

“Do you like it?” she asked.
