Pressing his forehead to the door, he sighed. He pushed himself upright and returned the way he’d come. At the base of the stairs, he shoved his phone in Brandy’s face.

Can’t you track her somehow?

“Look, I know you’re upset but no need to get rude… or creepy! Give the woman her space. We’ve already crossed some lines. Let’s get out of here,” Brandy said, pushing him toward the door. Outside, he heard the lock slip back into place before they started making their way back. “You know, if you two had had sex, you’d have a way to get a hold of her yourself, just saying.”

Edward rolled his eyes. She was not wrong, but they were not there yet. He had seriously contemplated it on the plane ride home. His dick had been on board and eager to see his mistress.

What can we do about this?

Edward cupped his throat after handing the phone over.

“Ryan and Serena are on their way to see if they can help,” Brandy said, handing him his phone.

They walked up to the café as Serena, Ethan, and Ryan piled out of Ethan’s car. “Hey, guys,” Ethan called.

Ryan took Brandy’s face in hand and kissed her senseless, uncaring that Edward and Ethan were there. “Hi,” Ryan told Brandy, a stupid grin on his face.

Edward rolled his eyes and faced the other couple, who were hand in hand.

“You know, this sort of suits you,” Serena teased.

He flipped her the bird without a thought, and everyone but him burst into laughter.

“That might be the most emotion I’ve seen from you,” Ryan said.

“All right, guys, let’s be nice and see if we can undo it,” Brandy stated.

Claudia chuckled. “I’m starting to think it was better if we took him to one of the houses. There is no way we’re all fitting in your little office.”

Serena winked at him and raised a finger for the others to wait. Edward crossed his arms over his chest, the desire to punch something increasing with each passing moment.

“Okay, now we’re good,” Serena announced. “No one can see or hear us. Now, Edward, what happened?”

He cocked his head in exasperation and tossed his hands in the air. Brandy set a hand on his arm and repeated what she knew and had seen. The others listened and the men winced at the conclusion Mia had drawn.

“Did she know you were at the café?” Serena asked, and he shook his head as he drew up his note app.

I was able to get on an earlier flight. Planned on surprising her but needed to talk to Claudia really quick first.

“You surprised her all right,” Ethan muttered.

“Okay, do you remember what spell she used?” Serena asked.

He shook his head. One minute I was asking her to let me explain and the next I couldn’t speak.

Ryan whistled. “Those words always prelude to a lie. I can see why she wanted to shut you up.”

“So here’s the thing. There are a few kinds of spells that can do this. Without knowing which one she used, we can do more harm than help,” Serena announced.

Edward spun on his heels and grabbed the back of his neck as he stared up between the buildings and into the night sky. His woman was somewhere out there, and he was without a voice. Everything had turned upside down from when he had called to tell her good morning.

When he spun back around, he stepped toward Ethan.

Can you see her? Is she okay at least? Please, E, I need to know…

His brother’s lips formed a thin line, but he offered him a nod before letting his lids lower. He stared as the seconds ticked by, but nothing happened. Ethan shifted in frustration and laid his hand on Edward’s shoulder. When their eyes met, he gave him a firm nod.

Please keep an eye on her for me. She’ll have to come back eventually.
