“Fuck that,” Kaleb and Bear said in unison, their animals flashing in their eyes.
“We’re brothers, and family doesn’t leave family,” Bear said, causing my eyes to well with tears.
“Whoever is messing with you is going to have a come-to-the-Goddess moment,” Kaleb promised.
Grayson grinned at his friends, love shining in his eyes for the two men who had his back.
I cleared my throat. “As much as this moment is hitting me right here,” I said, tapping the center of my chest. “We have no idea who dislikes you enough to tamper with your truck and nearly kill you—er… Bear. Sure, some of the jerks in town are side-eyeing you, but with time, they’ll come around when they see you’re not Bryson.”
“Oh, we’ll figure it out, now that we know someone’s lurking in the shadows. I’m a snake Shifter, hiding in shadows and striking out is kind of my thing.”
“Can I take a moment to point out that our boy here can quote Shakespeare?” Bear asked, amusement making his lips twitch.
I laughed. “Yeah, I wasnotexpecting that either!”
“Shannon’s wife, Leah, was a big reader. She was sort of obsessed with the bard,” Grayson said, taking the ribbing in stride.
“The bard?” Kaleb asked, his arms wide open. “Listen to him.”
Grayson jumped onto the couch and offered me a hand. “The course of true love never did run smooth.”
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” I whispered.
“My girl may not be ready to accept our fate, but it will make the chase that much sweeter,” Grayson said as he hopped down to brush his knuckles along my cheek.
While I wasn’t ready to accept his words, I also couldn’t find the energy to fight him, not after the kiss we’d shared or those blasted visions filled with enough passion to fog up every window in his two-story house.
“I’m not sure she’ll be fighting your charm for much longer,” Bear teased.
Narrowing my eyes on Bear, I zapped him in the arm.
“Ouch!” he said when the spark of magic hit his flesh.
Kaleb’s laughter filled the room. “Oh shit, she—Ouch! What did I do?”
“Be nice!” I warned, waving my finger in the air.
“She’s all mine, boys,” Grayson said, grinning like a lovesick puppy.
I rolled my eyes as my stupid stomach flipped and flopped with excitement at his words.
Bear rubbed his arm as he glared at me. “You can have her.”
“Yeah, she’s all yoursss,” Kaleb hissed.
Bear shook his head. “And here I thought she was sweet as pie.”
“Lies, all of it lies,” Kaleb said.
I laughed as their words became more over the top. “Don’t be babies. I didn’t get you that hard.”
Bear grasped his chest. “And after I almost died today?”
“No compassion!” Kaleb said.
“Holy guacamole, you two are a dramatic pair, aren’t you?”
“Clearly not as dramatic as little Shakespeare over there,” Bear said, nodding toward Grayson.
