I laughed. “As entertaining as this is, I need to get home to Rita.”

“Rita? Is she your daughter? Grayson! You left your kid too? No wonder the witch won’t accept your wily charms,” Kaleb said.

At the look of horror on Grayson’s face, I burst into a fit of laughter, wrapping my arms around my middle so as to hold myself together.

“No.”

“I mean, Aileen isn’t exactly agreeing with you.” Amusement shone in Bear’s eyes as he held a straight face.

“All this time I thought you were a standup guy, and the test showedthat was a lie,” Kaleb said.

“D-did you—” I paused between fits of laughter. “Just quote Maury?”

Kaleb grinned, and it was both beautiful and alarmingly scary. “Maybe.”

Sucking in a breath, I calmed myself. “Rita is my familiar.”

“Come on, I’ll get you home before these two get any more ideas,” Grayson said.

“I mean, maybe G is also friendly with this familiar,” Bear stage-whispered as Grayson led me toward the door.

“Oh, like a ménage?” Kaleb asked.

I nearly tripped. “Ew!”

“Just keep walking.” Grayson chuckled, pressing a hand to my lower back and an image of him rocking his hips into me filled my mind.

“Bow chika wow wow,” the men sang in unison.

My cheeks heated as I remembered the men could smell my arousal.

“Yeah, that’s not helping,” Grayson whispered along the shell of my ear as we stepped out the door.

I growled, annoyed not only with the men but also my stupid body, which had a mind of its own. “I’m no longer talking to you.”

He kissed my temple and my heart fluttered. “Okay, baby.”

Chapter 10

“Girl, you need to calm your ass down,” Cami snapped and tipped back the glass of wine she’d poured herself the moment she’d stepped inside the kitchen.

I adjusted the salad bowl for the tenth time. “Maybe I should have made two lasagnas?”

Cami laughed. “Are you feeding a football team?”

“They’re Shifters. Maybe I am.”

Cami set her glass down and grabbed me by the shoulders. “You need to breathe before you give yourself an aneurysm or blow this house to smithereens. At this point, I think both are real possibilities.”

Sucking in a breath, I nodded. “Okay.”

“Is this because his friends are coming over or because it’s Gray?”

I bit my lip and peered around the kitchen. “I-I-ugh! What if he leaves again?” I whispered.

Cami pulled me into a hug. “Oh, honey, you gotta stop thinking about that. He made that decision so he’d survive the atomic bomb his father set off in his life and in this town.”

I nodded but tears filled my eyes. “He broke my heart.”
