“Everything okay?” Harrison asked.

My huff became a growl as I shook my head. “Just another asshole with an opinion about males who write romance.”

“I’m sorry, man. If it’s any consolation, I’m damn proud of you. I can’t imagine it being easy having readers judge you before reading your books.”

“It’s exhausting, to say the least.”

“Harrison, help me clearthe table.” I grabbed my dinner plate and Gran’s and headed into the kitchen.

It took us three trips to get the table cleared. I turned from putting the last bowl of leftovers in the fridge and ran straight into a solid chest. Butterflies took flight in my belly at his warm, spicy scent.

“What are you doing?” I pushed against him and looked into his eyes. Every fiber in my body leaned toward him. Fireworks joined the butterflies at the desire I saw in his eyes, before it was gone in a blink.

“I just wanted to offer to do the dishes. Gran cooked. You and Harrison cleaned the table. It’s only fair I wash everything up,” Jack said.

I waved him away with my hands. “No, it’s fine. I’ll get them later.”

“Will you let me help you with the drinks at least?”

“Okay.” I nodded, my brain fighting my body for control. I was looking forward to relaxing with a drink in hand this evening. The night in would be nice before Christmas Eve stuff tomorrow.

“Hey man were you able to swing that thing?” Harrison asked Jack when we returned with drinks.

“Yeah, I was.” Jack glanced at Happy.

“With my parents bailing on Gran this year, how about you give it to her now? You know she’d love to have it early.”

“Now’s not the time, Harrison,” Jack replied, his face scrunched in frustration.

I was pretty sure my comment about smut had pissed him off earlier. It hadn’t been my intention, but I was more surprised that he read romance in the first place.

“A gift?” Gran asked. “I love gifts.” She batted her eyes at Jack.
