“Shines,” the man confirmed. “Works at the police department. Pebble Garden.”
The name sounded familiar. Was that the policeman who had assaulted Demi? I thought Axe had killed him.
“No, Shines is dead,” another said. Ah, I was right then. “It’s Kit, his brother.”
“His brother?” I asked. “Kit?”
“Yeah. They were Muro’s contacts. One in Pebble Garden, the other in Brackston.” The man nodded. “Kit disappeared too though.”
“It shouldn’t be too hard to find him.”
“If anyone cared.”
A chorus of chuckles rumbled through the room. Not many people cared that Muro was gone, even if he was one of their kind. Because with him gone, there was more profiting for the rest. Less competition to deal with.
“Let’s have a look at yours,” one of the men said to another. The servant stood, her eyes lowered, her chest thrust out. She came towards the speaker.
“Will you take off your bra, darling?” another said.
“He said take off your bra, cunt,” her master said.
Turning a deep shade of red, the servant removed her bra, exposing her breasts.
“I have a call to make,” I said. I gestured for Maddie to follow me. When she lifted her hand to wipe the dirt and saliva off of her face, I grabbed her wrist, making her stop. I liked seeing her like that.
As soon as the double doors shut behind us, I shoved her against the wall and pressed against her, letting her feel my hard dick, my tongue relentless in her mouth, searching for her soul. She was an utterly disgraced mess, and she was mine. She moaned deeply and I wrapped my fingers in her hair, pulling apart the strands because I wanted to own every part of her.
I broke apart, my glare searing into her.
“When we return,” I said slowly, “You will not expose yourself. Nor will you be touched by another man. Or I will kill them. And then I will kill you too.”
I dared her to tell me differently. To say that she needed that freedom to be her own woman, that I couldn’t tie her down like that. But she nodded. Blood flowed through me, surging to my cock. I closed my lips together. Good.
“Remember Mads,” I said, using her hair to pull her in closer to me, “You’re mine. I own you. You kneel for no one, but me.”
Her lips trembled open, and I kissed her hard, forcing her, making sure that she knew how serious I was. And when I broke apart, her eyes were misty, full of lust and longing. My body filled with heat. I wanted to protect her, to know her, to do everything with her.
My mother’s voice filled my head:You can’t help who you fall in love with.
Perhaps this was love. Perhaps it wasn’t. But whatever it was, I couldn’t stop it, nor did I want to. Maddie was mine, and for once, I didn’t care about what that meant to the family legacy.
But we still had to move on.
I straightened my shirt, then fixed her lingerie, then turned down the hallway to take a call outside. As we passed through the corridor, one of the doors opened, flashing a marble restroom with chairs and an attendant. The door swung closed, but I stopped beside it.
“Go ahead and fix yourself,” I said. As much as I loved seeing her like that, we had other business to attend to. Maddie nodded, giving her silent obedience.
I went to dial Kiley. Whoever this Kit person was, he wasn’t Muro.
But he was close enough.
CHAPTER 15
Maddie
I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror. I was a mess. The loose hairs I had pulled from my chignon to curl were now limp and lifeless. Stray strands cropped up in a crown around my head like a lion’s mane. My eyes were ringed like a masquerade mask, the saliva from my own mouth mixing with my makeup. Damned smokey eyes. Particles of dirt from the bottom of Derek’s shoe were scattered on my cheeks like freckles. My lips were puffy from his teeth, slightly swollen and tender when I pressed them together. And my panties were soaked.
What was wrong with me?
