“Can you just tell me what will happen?”

“You will walk the earth as a beast until you come back to me.”

“As a wolf?”

“Correct.”

“So how am I supposed to get to work? To see Angel? Or my pack? Or run out for some fast food if I get the munchies?”

“The job might be a problem, although it’s not entirely insurmountable. I can be wherever you want to be. Almost anywhere. You pack’s camp is off limits to me, though they’re all welcome to see you here. My driver or butler can get you anything you need. Seeing Angel is not a problem. You can see her whenever you want … we can. I’ll do my best to clear my schedule for everything else for the next…” he smirked, and added, “eighty years or so, give or take.”

“Wow…”

He kissed my neck softly. I wanted him to do it again, and I told him words to that effect.

“I know,” he answered, tasting down to my collarbone without drawing more blood.

“Is that part of the curse?”

“Yes.”

“And you feel the same instinct?”

“Yes. I can only drink your blood until the curse ends.”

I sprang up from the bed. “You haven’t had blood for a month?”

“No.”

“How did you survive?”

“I’ve been an immortal for over three and a half centuries, Sonya. I’ve found ways to … cope.”

“Man, you’re old.”

He grinned. “I am.”

“In a way, this whole setup is so … weird. This is it for us … well, for my lifespan.”

“True.”

“I don’t get why I’m handling it so well.”

“It’s the curse.”

“Is that why I’m itching to tell you…”

“No.”

“Do you?”

“Love you? Yes, Sonya. I do. I love you.”

“I love you too, Vincent.”

“I can’t explain why, either. Love has never been logical. I have since the second I laid eyes on you at the airport. Which makes this union all the more … fated, for lack of a better word.”

“Do you regret agreeing to save my life? I mean, you’re cursed too.”
