“You okay?”
I nod, then shake my head, laughing even harder.
“Which is it?” Aaron leans in, actually looking concerned.
“No.” I wave my hand out before me. “I can’t stop laughing.”
“We need to get her home.” I look back as Jillian joins me looking back toward the table. “She is in full on detail mode right now. With sounds effects and positions.”
“Excuse me?” Rory asks with his brows furrowed.
“Sophie,” I say. “She’s hit critical, and I’m afraid she is going to ignite, explode, or something if we don’t diffuse the situation.”
“What is with you ladies tonight?” Rory asks, throwing his hand up. “First Sophie surprises us all with a killer voice, then Adley goes all crazy fucking Carrie from prom night, then this.”
“Wait what?” I hold out my hand to stop him mid rant and he pauses. “What happen to Adley?”
“Hell I don’t know, she got all pissed and then lunged at me like she wanted to kill me so Bennett drug her out of here.”
“Bennett was here?” I look around like I’ll actually find him, even though Rory just told me he left.
“For like five minutes til Adley pitched a fit and they left. She is so hot and cold, I don’t know what the hell her problem is.”
“Her problem is she likes you, idiot!” I say, shoving him in the chest and then turning to walk away. These men, they wouldn’t know shit unless it smacked them in the damn nose. Even then, I’m still not sure, they’d be too focused on the pain to acknowledge the reasoning.
“Where are you going?” he hollers out after me and I lift my hand, flipping him off.
“To check on my roommate, you ass!”
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
Bennett
It’safter one in the morning and Adley is sitting in my recliner, staring a small hole in the wall. She hasn’t talked, besides when she called me a dick and told me that I was only seconds away from being murdered. Apparently I should have gotten out of her way and let her beat the snot out of Rory.
Her words, not mine.
He was a pigheaded prick that deserved a black eye. Again her words.
When I asked her why she was so mad, she said if I have to explain it to you, you’re as dumb as him.
So I stopped asking.
I’ll admit the woman I surround myself with are a rare breed. They are stubborn, demanding at times, and no matter what they are always right. Even if they aren’t, they are, you never tell them otherwise. If you do, you better run.
And hide!
Opening the refrigerator I grab a beer and pop the cap using the edge of my countertop. Leaning back against the counter, crossing my ankles I take a swig, looking around the place. An apartment I’ve lived in for more than three years and has seen a lot of shit. Both good and some bad, things I’m not proud of, and memories I want to hold onto forever.
The idea that my new home will be where I’m given the chance to build a life, create good memories, and live out dreams is inspiring.
I enjoyed my teens and into my twenties. When I say I enjoyed them, I over lived the bachelor life, taking advantage of the freedoms single guys have. In doing so I hurt some people I’ll regret hurting for the rest of my life.
A soft tapping on my door has me shifting in that direction and Adley trying to stand up. She’s entirely too tipsy to do that gracefully so instead she leans forward.
“That better not be Rory, Bennett I swear, there will be bloodshed. I will stain your pretty walls.”
I chuckle, shaking my head at her antics.
