“Would it be worth the effort?”

“Maybe not. Him, then.” He gestured with his glass toward another man, a curvy, dark-haired omega in a tight, embroidered corset. His ample chest spilled over, big nipples sticking out. An image flashed through my mind of Lothair sucking one of them while his fingers dug into those generous thighs. I swallowed the last of my cocktail.

“Should we rate all the omegas in the room on a scale from one to ten?” I said, keeping my tone carefully neutral.

“Was that sarcasm, Terrance? Tsk.” Lothair took my empty glass. “I’m going to mingle. I’m giving you forty-five minutes to have any kind of fun, then I expect a report. Be here at half past eleven.”

With that, he walked away.

The Orgy

LOTHAIR

This time,Caspian had outdone himself. The food was excellent, the decor lavish, the dancers mesmerizing, but what was most awe-inspiring was the ambiance. It must have been the scents affecting everybody. The perfume of heat and sex would slowly bring everyone in the room to a horny frenzy. For now, the tension was rising, lust and anticipation simmering. I sniffed, then inhaled deeper.

Mmm. So many wet, eager holes.

I’d left Terrance sitting on the sofa. I didn’t need his negativity. Personal security specialist, my ass—more like personal buzzkill specialist. But the atmosphere would soon get to him. The people around us were gradually becoming more intoxicated, and they were loosening up. The pheromones from the couple in the exhibit were mixing with the stink of arousal from the guests. Caspian had set the party up to start the biggest orgy this city had ever experienced, and with how things were going, he’d succeed.

I couldn’t wait to see what Terrance would do when people started fucking around him. The look on his face when he’d spotted the main attraction had been priceless.

Making rounds and greeting the most important guests, I kept one eye on Terrance. At first, he sat stiffly on the sofa, surveying the place as if he were working. Then his gaze wandered to one of the dancers and lingered for quite some time.

He looked so prim and proper in his tuxedo and bowtie. A freaking bowtie. It was only a question of time before someone would notice him.

“Lothair Courtemanche.”

The sultry tone made me turn.

It was the omega Terrance had dismissed earlier as superior. He was indeed posh, and I knew him from somewhere. I racked my brain for clues as he blinked up at me coyly.

“It’s been a long time.”

“Yet some things are hard to forget.” I still had no idea who he was.

He hummed, and his scent wafted toward me. It was powerful, probably artificially enhanced. “True. It was a memorable weekend.”

Did I fuck him at some point? Possibly. It must have been more than a year ago, or I would have remembered. He bit his lip, waiting for me to say something.

“Well, you look dazzling tonight.” Name. I need a name! “But that’s no surprise. You shine everywhere you go.” I inhaled deeply, long enough so he’d have no doubt I was scenting him. “Dazzling indeed.”

“You’re as shameless as you used to be.” He stepped closer, his chest almost brushing my arm, and glancedaround noncommittally. “How are you enjoying the night? There’s plenty to see.”

The couple in the exhibit had changed positions. The omega was now on his elbows and knees, mouth open, his cries drowned out by the music as the alpha leisurely fucked him. A few couples stood around, groping each other while they watched. One alpha seemed to have his fingers up an omega’s ass under a billowing gown.

“It’s certainly colorful. By midnight, half of the room will be fucking on the floor.”

My companion threw his head back in a well-honed laugh. And I remembered. He’d starred in one of those dating reality shows some time ago and had since become what was politely alluded to as a socialite. Meaning he got paid for attending parties and letting glamorous guests flirt with him. I had not fucked him, but we had talked at a couple of events. I still couldn’t recall his name.

He gave me a seductive look, just as fake as his laughter. “How about you find me later?”

“I certainly will. With the scents in the room, you might need protection from a throng of keen alphas.”

“I can take care of myself. Unless I’ll need protecting from you?”

It wouldn’t hurt to keep my options open. I loomed over him and spoke directly into his ear. “Would you want to protect yourself from me?”
