Eight
There would be no escape. His fated female could not outrun him, no matter how hard she tried. He’d submitted to the Alpha for her, joined the pack for her and she had the gall to run! Fury pushed him harder, faster. Hot on her tail until she had no place to go. She would either face him or plunge to her death and he wouldn’t allow that.
More than anything, he wanted answers. He inched closer, snapping at her heels as he circled her. She never once flinched, choosing to hold her ground and ignore the threat he issued. He tried to press into her mind with the pack link but failed, or she ignored him. Either way, he couldn’t get through to her.
“Stubborn woman!”
He shifted to human form, hoping that she would follow suit and they could have a conversation.
“Can you shift so we can talk about this?” Jason paced back and forth in front of the female.
“Mikah, please talk to me,” he begged.
She huffed and looked away.
“Really? That’s all I get is a huff? I accepted your Alpha—joined your pack just so I could have a conversation with you.”
Nothing.
“Let me try again to reach her,”his wolf asked.
“Fine.”Having no idea what else to try, Jason handed his wolf control once more.
His approach was slow, each step calculated, hoping not to scare his mate off. He wanted to talk, to get to know more than just her name. He wanted to know everything about her. What made her who she was, what did she want out of this life?
She let out a soft whine. So soft that if he wouldn’t have been paying attention to her every move, he would have missed it. In a surprising move, she closed the gap between them. Her eyes met his. A whisper soft voice filled his mind.
“Yours.”
It wasn’t a question from his mate but a statement proclaiming that she was his. Such a modest admission. The female rubbed up against him, her scent enveloped him.
“So beautiful. So soft.”
Jason found it hard to believe he’d not only found his mate, but she seemed to want him.
His heartbeat sped as her muzzle rubbed up against his. A simple swipe of her tongue across his face had him wanting more. She whined again, this time louder, making sure he heard her.
She lowered her head to him, exposing the side of her neck. His wolf did exactly what instinct demanded.
Without warning, his fangs sank deep into her flesh.
Heaven.
The taste of chocolate and champagne filled his mouth and coated his throat. Memories that weren’t his flooded his mind. He tried to slow down the flow of information, but it was no use. Image after image of Mikah’s life flashed through his head. Pain, so much pain and hurt.
Sorrow, regret, and fear swept over him as he slowly pulled back.
“Why would you do that?” Mikah screamed, grabbing her neck as she shifted back to human form. “How could you have marked me without my permission?”
His wolf immediately shrank to the back of his mind, either haunted by what he had seen in her memories or because of the meltdown taking place. If Jason had to wager a bet, he was going to go with the meltdown factor.
“Pussy,”he said to his wolf.
“What do you mean how could I do that without your permission? Did you lose your mind along with your clothes when you shifted from wolf to human?”

“What are you rambling about? Of course, I didn’t lose my mind or my clothes. You’re just trying to distract me from what really happened.” She refused to look down. She’d fallen for enough tricks today—fuck you very much.
