“What the hell does that mean?” Chance looked to Lars and Sofia.

“What did I miss?” Lars asked.

Sofia sighed. “You know my parents adopted Ginger right?”

“Yeah,” Lars replied, wondering what the big deal was.

“Well, she just found out that she was born here at Black Paw.”

“What!” Lars and Chance said in unison.

“Her parents were Gregory and Lorna,” Rafe said with a sigh.

“That means that James is her brother,” Lars concluded.

“And she just found all of this out?” Chance asked.

“Literally, like five minutes ago.” Sofia walked over to Chance and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Give her some time. She knows you are her mate.”

Although his human brain knew his newfound mate needed time to process the information she had just learned, his wolf wanted what he wanted—what was his, and he was willing to huff and puff and blow the damn door down to get to her if need be.

“Again, I am sorry for the way my wolf acted toward you,” Chance said to Lars.

“I know, man. I forgive you. Just don’t let it happen again.”

Ginger made it as far as the dining room before she collapsed into a lump of a human in the middle of the damn floor. This was not how she had expected her day, her vacation, hell—her life to go. Yet here she was.

Everything she had ever wanted in her life had been given to her in the last ten minutes.

Nearly everything. Whatever the hell game Chance was playing was the icing on the cake.

It was too much. A complete emotional overload.

She was beyond her breaking point.

“Hey,” Sofia said, pulling up a seat on the floor beside Ginger.

“Hey.” Ginger didn’t even bother to look up.

“Are you okay?”

“Honestly, I have no idea. I don’t even know what’s happening anymore. Your Alpha must think I’m nuts—or one of the weakest wolves in the history of forever.”

That’s exactly what she felt like. She had always wanted to know who her family was and where she came from. She had also always dreamed of finding her mate.

So why was she having so much of a problem dealing with the truths that were stacking up right in front of her?

“He doesn’t think that. No one does. You’ve had a lot thrown at you today, and we all understand that. In fact, the Gods must’ve known you could handle your entire life flipping upside down within an hour.”

“You’re handling this far better than I would have,” Grace said, offering her support.

“I’m not so sure about that. I mean—I should be happy right? But I’m still in shock. I found out who my family was. I’ve struggled all of my life, wanting to know who my parents were and why they gave me away. All I’ve ever wanted was to be loved.”

“You have been loved. By me. By my family,” Sofia said.

“I know, and I don’t know what I would have done without any of you in my life. But it’s different when you live your whole life, wondering why you were given away. Why your parents didn’t love you enough to keep you.”
