Chapter Twenty-one
Kylah
Best. Flipping. New Years’ Eve. Ever.
We didn’t have much time to cuddle after Kady’s warning to hurry up, we cleaned ourselves up and got dressed. The only problem that seemed to throw me for a loop was the big hickey Van left on my right boob.
I had no recollection of him marking me like that while we were making out, but when I turned on the bathroom light and saw my reflection in the mirror, I gasped in delight. I traced the small, circular bruise with the pad of my finger, relishing in the memory of Van’s mouth, lips, and body all over mine.
That reverie quickly dissipated as I realized where the mark was located. It just so happened that my V-neck dress wouldn’t hide it all from prying eyes. I didn’t have a lot of make-up tricks to use but did my best to use the concealer I had to try to tone down the purplish mark. I figured the lights in the house are low enough and no one would notice anything to do with my chest, anyhow.
Van and I decided to head down separately, with him going the front stairway and me taking the back, which leads down to the kitchen. I think it took us about five minutes to finally separate from one another, as we kissed hungrily at my doorway, the din from the party downstairs filtering up through the hallway, barely noticeable over the sounds of our heavy breathing.
“Okay,” I say, pulling away reluctantly, placing my hands on his chest to push him away. His hands wrap around my wrists, holding me to him. “We need to get back downstairs.”
He drops his head to me, his hair falling over our faces, kissing the tip of my nose.
“I don’t want to go.” He whines. It’s pretty cute. I pull one of my hands free and slip a section of his hair back behind his ear.
I’ve always been curious as to his hairstyle and why he has long hair. “Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure. If it’s, ‘do I want to fuck you again?’ Then the answer is an unequivocal yes.”
I giggle at his audacity and his sexual appetite. I know if I brought my hand down to his crotch, he’d be hard again. The thought thrills me and sends frissons through my body – specifically to my nether regions.
I give him a good-natured eye roll but am secretly elated that he wants me again so soon after we just had sex. I’ve had to pinch myself so many times over the last few days to make sure this thing is all real and not a dream fantasy of mine.
I’m having sex with Donovan Gerard! Holy moly.
“Later.” I admonish lightheartedly, sweeping my hands up to his shoulders, behind his neck and bringing his head down to mine, where I kiss him on the mouth. Just one little kiss before we part ways. My question that I wanted to ask him about his hair is lost in a sea of kisses.
“It’s almost midnight. Since I can’t kiss you downstairs, that will have to do until later tonight.”
He grumbles, but relents, releasing my hands as I move toward the end of the hallway. Just as I get to the top of the steps, I glance back to find him still staring at me, not having moved an inch.
Scrunching my nose, I ask, “What’s the matter?”
Van heaves a heavy sigh, bowing his head and shaking it back and forth. “Nothing. You’re just so fucking sexy. It’s gonna be a long night.”
My head is on Cloud Nine after that compliment. I’ve been told I’m pretty before by my family, but it never meant much. I didn’t really feel beautiful. But hearing it from Van, it’s just too much. It’s hard to believe that he’d find me attractive.
As I bound down the stairs, I try to hide my all-too-big-smile that’s plastered on my mouth so no one notices. Just as I round the corner at the landing, I run into Ainsley, who is on her way up. Probably to use the upstairs bathroom.
The look on her face tells me she heard what Van said to me just now. Oh dear.
She says nothing, but her grin and sapphire eyes twinkle with delight. She knows.
I shrug my shoulders innocently as we pass each other on the stairs and she brushes my hand with hers, stopping me in my tracks.
“Van’s a good guy, Kylah. He’ll treat you right.”
My smile widens, my feelings validated by a girl I admire and respect. But that girl is the same one who dates my brother. And probably shares all her secrets with him.
She must realize what I’m thinking because she shakes her head. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell Cade. It’s not any of his business. You guys will tell him when you’re ready.”
The relief washes over me, sluicing like water down a river.
“Thanks, Ainsley. I appreciate that.”
