She stops the pecking against the sensitive part of my neck with her lips and pulls back so she can see my face. I flatten my lips in a thin line, warring with how to tell her all that transpired was my fault.

London gazes at me lovingly, her eyes shining with adoration. She places her hands on my cheeks and gently kisses my lips.

“I know all your secrets, Sage, and I’ve forgiven every last one of them. Nothing you can say or do will stop me from loving you.”

I flatten my palm against her heart, feeling the lightthudof her heartbeat against her chest.

“I was the one who ruined things between Cam and me. When I was out on bail, I was so angry. So conflicted. So scared and confused.”

London places her finger at my lips, shushing me.

“Shh. That is ancient history. It no longer matters.”

“But our lives could’ve been so different had I not done the one thing I knew I shouldn’t have done.”

London slides her legs over my lap, straddling me and pinning me with a hard, yet consoling stare.

“Baby,” she whispers. “What you think you did wasn’t wrong. Maybe the timing wasn’t perfect, but you set the course, the direction, that he needed. Our fate was sealed that day, don’t you see? We needed for our lives to unravel – for that fork in the road to take us in opposite directions – in order that we could meet back up along the way.”

She kisses my forehead, then my temple, moving down to my stubbled jawline, her fingertips grazing the skin as she goes. When she’s finally at my mouth, she smiles against my lips.

“Don’t you see, Sage? Our journey isn’t over. I feel it here,” she affirms, grasping my hand and placing it over her heart where it had been moments before. “I don’t know when, or how, but we will all be together again. A love like ours can’t be denied forever.”
