Chapter 24

EvanAnn

“Hey, I missed you at lunch.” Chase sits next to me in acting class. He smiles and puts his hand on top of mine. “What did you do?”

I swallow down the urge to say the Devil’s trio, because I’m so sick of pretending with him. Not that we fucked, but it was so nice to just be with them and not have to worry about everything else. But Chase and I? We’re in this weird space where he thinks there’s hope.

I’m curious if he knows what Damon said to Olivia. Maybe he’ll think it’s a joke or a way for Damon to push his buttons more. I can always lead him to that conclusion if he brings it up.

“I had lunch off campus.” Stick as close to the truth as possible.

“Yeah?” He lounges back in his chair and runs a hand through his dark hair. He looks around the classroom and then returns his focus to me. “I would have gone with you.”

“It was last minute. I didn’t want to eat a salad today.” I shrug.

He nods like that makes sense. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him eat a salad. “Are you coming to my game tonight?”

“Of course. I wouldn’t miss it.” I give him a soft smile, like I’m into him.

He puffs up and leans into me. “I miss touching you, EvanAnn.”

I want to push him away and tell him to go fuck himself because he’s never touching me again. But I know how to act.

“Yeah?” I smile shyly at him, because I need him to believe I’m still trying to get back with him. If he suspects something is going on with any of the Devil’s trio, will this work? I may need to up my game. Only for a little while longer.

“I think about you in that skirt from last Saturday a lot.” His blue eyes meet mine. “Are you going to wear something like that this weekend?”

“Maybe.” If I did, I’d be wearing it for my guys and not him, but he doesn’t know that.

Mia plops down on my other side. “Olivia was an even bigger bitch at lunch today. She must be PMSing.”

Chase glances at Mia before he turns to look at his phone.

“Yeah?” I ask, wondering if she’s going to mention the guys weren’t out there. Did Chase notice they were gone too?

“I swear I was about to douse her in holy water.” Mia shakes her head. “She kept going on about Damon even though he wasn’t even there.”

I laugh. “She cornered me in the bathroom yesterday.”

Mia leans in. “Really?”

I lower my voice. “Apparently she thinks Damon wants me or something and tried to pay me off to reject him.”

“What a rich bitch thing to do.” Mia glances toward Chase, who is still enraptured with his phone. “What’d you say?”

“I said she had nothing to worry about and refused her money.” I shrug like it isn’t a big deal and glance at Chase.

Mia laughs. “Where does she find the nerve? That girl wouldn’t make it a day at my old school.”

Chase drapes his arm around my shoulders and squeezes me. I give him a tight smile. At least he’s not trying to kiss me.

Mia nudges my arm. “We on for Saturday?”

Chase goes back to his phone with a little humph.

“Going to the scrimmage?” I toy with my pen to not seem too interested.

“I was so lonely last time.” She smiles. “You can come and cheer on your new roommate. That will piss Olivia off too.”
