Her moans are muffled against my lips, her tongue tangling with mine, and the sounds she’s making are driving me wild. I thrust up into her, not able to hold back anymore, needing to be a part of this with her. I feel the tension building in my body, the coil in my gut tightening with each thrust, each ragged breath.
“That’s it, baby,” I murmur, my mouth against her ear. “Let go, Lainey. Come for me.”
She does, her body tensing, a soft cry escaping her throat as she clenches around me, riding out her orgasm. It undoes me, and I grip her hips, thrusting up into her, my own orgasm ripping through me, tearing a guttural groan from my chest as I spill into her, my body shaking with the force of it.
We’re both breathless, sweaty, and I tighten my hold on her, feeling her pulse racing beneath my fingers. She kisses me then, lazy and satisfying, her body slowly relaxing against mine.
“Wow,” she whispers, her lips curved in a soft smile.
“Not done with you yet,” I murmur the words against her neck, my hands trailing down her back, leaving little trails of fire in my wake.
I feel her smile against my shoulder, her body already tensing in anticipation. “You’re insatiable.”
“Mmm, with you, I am.” I tug her body closer, my hand sliding down to palm her ass, giving it a gentle squeeze. “But I promise you’ll enjoy it.”
She laughs, a soft, sexy sound that sends shivers down my spine. “I think I’m gonna need a minute.”
“Noproblem.” I press a kiss to her shoulder, my hand stroking her back, drawing lazy patterns on her skin as we catch our breath. “We’ve got all night.”
Tomorrow, we’ll go back to being Lainey and Zach, best man and maid of honor, at odds with each other and pretending this didn’t happen. But tonight? Tonight, we’re just two people figuring out what it feels like to let go—if only for a little while.
Chapter 2
Lainey
Memoriesfromlastnightflood in, unbidden and all too vivid. I almost forget where I am. But then the faint, lingering scent of Zach’s cologne on the sheets snaps me back to reality.
I glance toward the bathroom door, where the sound of the shower running brings a fresh flush to my cheeks. Zach Darling. Of all people. I mean, yes, Zach’s infuriatingly charming and good-looking, but waking up in his bed is a line I swore I’d never cross.
But that was last night. It was just a momentary lapse of judgment. I can’t let it mean anything more.
I slip out of bed as quietly as possible, gathering my clothes from the floor piece by piece and slipping them on as quickly as I can. There’s no time for a farewell, and honestly, that’s for the best. The last thing I want is an awkward morning-after chat with him standingthere, hair dripping, and that infuriatingly charming look on his face.
No, thank you.
Grabbing my purse, I let myself out of the room, careful to close the door softly behind me. The hallway feels far too quiet as I walk to the elevator. Catching my reflection in the polished metal doors, I cringe. My hair’s a mess, and my cheeks are flushed—not from exertion, of course. Definitely not.
The elevator dings, and I step inside, determined to put this behind me. I’m not about to let a night with Zach Darling derail my entire day.
Thebridalshopisalready open by the time I arrive, and Chloe’s in the back with Janelle, talking with the stylist as they sort through a few dresses. Janelle turns first, her face lighting up as I walk in.
“There she is! And here I thought you might skip out on us this morning.” Janelle gives me a knowing smile, her sharp hazel eyes studying me a little too intently.
I try to play it off, setting the coffee tray down and slipping off my sunglasses, giving themboth a wide grin. “Who, me? Never. Chloe, I wouldn’t miss this for the world. I even brought coffee.”
Chloe peeks around a rack of dresses, her sharp eyes zeroing in on me. “Lainey, you’re… glowing. Is that… a glow?”
I nearly trip over my own feet. “Glowing? Don’t be ridiculous. It’s just… post-engagement party energy.”
“Uh-huh,” Chloe says, clearly unconvinced. Her grin is all mischief. She exchanges a glance with Janelle, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Mm-hmm.Justthe party, huh?”
“Yes. Just the party.” I take a long, slow sip of coffee, hoping it’ll hide the telltale blush creeping up my cheeks. But Janelle isn’t letting me off that easily.
She raises an eyebrow, her lips quirking into a smirk. “You seem… different. A little distracted, maybe? And it’s not like you to be late for a fitting, especially one for your best friend.”
I shove a coffee cup into her hand before she can push further. “I’m fine. Let’s focus on Chloe, shall we? Big day and all.”
Chloe, however, isn’t letting it go. “Wait—hold up. Is this why you disappeared last night?”
