Where did you go off to the other night, Mikey?” Jake asked as we helped Colter prep the barn for calving.
“Ah, you know. Home.” I shrugged as I shoveled old bedding into a wheelbarrow.
“Oh?” He raised an eyebrow. “And what did you do at home?”
“Why are you suddenly so interested in my personal life, Flynn?” Normally, the guys would complain if I talked about my sex life. “Thought you didn’t care to hear about my sexcapades?” Their wording, not mine.
“We don’t!” Ellison yelled from the side-by-side parked outside the barn.
“Nosy woman.” I snorted, shaking my head.
“Yeah, but what we do wanna know is if this girl is a keeper or not.” Jake waggled his eyebrows. “You gonna be able to keep this one for a whole month?”
“I’ll have you know, I’m fully capable of keeping a girl. I just choose not to, because most of them are nuttier thana fruitcake. I’m surprised none of them have tried to trap me with a fake baby or something.”
Reid chuckled. “I’m kind of shocked none of them have come to you with a real baby.”
“Be nice to him, he’s just now learning about commitment, you guys.” Colter patted me on the shoulder as he passed.
“When do we get to meet the lucky—or maybe unlucky—lady?” Jake poked at me.
“You’ll meet her eventually. I don’t want you guys to scare her away.”
Colter tapped his lips. “Hm, I don’t know, Mikey. I’m not sure I’m convinced this girl even exists. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
It was a joke about me giving him shit about Ellison when they first met, but I just shrugged. “Fine by me, Carson. Make fun of me all you want, but that money’s going to be mine at the end of this.”And no one will even have to get hurt in the end.
