I pulled him down for a quick kiss. “How could I not? I love it.” I shook my head and went back to looking at all of the calming tones that were everywhere. “When did you have time to do all of this?”

Marcello shook his head. “I honestly didn’t do it. This is all Mazzi and Rio. I just found the pictures that I wanted them to help me make it look like, and then they did the rest. We went through a few changes, but I finally liked how it turned out. Of course you can change it to anything you want, but I saw something like this written down in your notebook about things to do for the babies.”

“This is…” I wrapped my arms around Marcello’s waist tightly and held on. “This is more than I ever thought my nursery would look like.” I leaned into Marcello’s embrace and let myself be held. I stared at the room for a moment before something occurred to me. “Marcello? What if one or both of the babies are a vampire?”

Marcello kissed the top of my head. “That doesn’t matter. We are having babies, and their daddy is a gorgeous arctic foxshifter. This room is more for him and calming him and his fox than it is for them.”

I looked up at my mate, and he leaned down and kissed my nose. We were interrupted by a knock on the doorway. Marcello turned with me still in his arms, and we found Nicolo standing there. “Mazzi had the baby. We already knew the baby was a he, but they had a little baby vampire.”

I gasped. “Did Naldo make it here in time?”

Nicolo nodded, then looked up at Marcello. “Master Vincent has returned and would like to speak to you when you have free time.”

I felt a shift in my mate’s body, and he was no longer relaxed, suddenly on edge. I looked up at him, wondering what had caused his reaction.

“Are you all right?” I asked. “You’re suddenly tense.”

Marcello sighed. “Yes. I will need to go see Vincent shortly. It is never good to keep him waiting for too long, even for me.”

I grinned. “Go, then,” I told him. “I’m going to be here in the nursery, because seriously, that chair over there looks like the best spot to take a nap.”

Marcello chuckled. “Very well. I’ll go see what it is that Vincent wants, and then I’ll be back.” Marcello pointed to the wall that was shared with our room. “There has been a door added, so we can have the door open at night once the twins move from our room to here.”

I can’t believe I hadn’t seen that. I hopped over to the door and opened it, peeking into our room on the other side. “How did I miss this?”

Marcello walked over to me and pulled me closer for another kiss. “It was added only this morning after we left the room. I was going to share the nursery with you when you asked about the new addition to the wall in our room.” Marcello kissed me again and then cupped my cheek. “Take a nap, but I’d reallyprefer you did so in our bed. There is more room, and it will be more comfortable for you.” Marcello ran his fingers through my hair. “I’ll join you when I return if you’d like.”

I smiled. “I would very much so, yes.”

Marcello smiled again, then leaned down and kissed my lips quickly before he pulled me tightly to his chest.“Ti amo, mi angelo.”

I smiled into his chest. “I love you too, Marcello. I’ll spend just a bit more time here in the nursery, and then I’ll go over to our room and lay down.” It wasn’t that I was overly tired, but I knew if I didn’t rest, I would be out before nine this evening, and then I’d wake up in the middle of the night. That was never fun. Well, it could certainly be fun and enjoyable when you had a vampire mate.

Marcello winked before he kissed my forehead and then left the nursery. I sighed as I walked along the walls and looked at the amazingness that was the room for our twins. There were so many tiny details, and I couldn’t stop smiling. There were plush toys that were more for decoration than anything because they absolutely weren’t baby-friendly. I pulled open the top drawer of the dresser, which had a thick changing pad on top of it, and found it full of tiny little diapers. I pulled one out and shook my head. It fit in the palm of my hand. Granted, I didn’t have overly large hands, but it was so small.

I held it next to my slightly rounded stomach and shook my head again before putting the diaper back into the drawer. There were packs of wipes beside the diapers, and then I found blankets and burp cloths in the second drawer. The bottom one had more diapers and receiving cloths. I wondered where the sleepers were but realized that this wasn’t a dresser-dresser but a changing table. I found the dresser where ours was: in the closet.

Why babies needed a walk-in closet, I wouldn’t ever understand, but there were rows of tiny little sleepers that were organized by size. Then there were cute outfits, and when I looked closer, I saw that the sleepers all were very neutral. We knew we were having twins, but for now, only Rio and most likely Mazzi knew what we were having. I had wanted to know, but then I didn’t, and I really just wanted to have our babies be happy and healthy.

I pulled open the dresser and found even tinier socks and impossibly small onesie bodysuits. I held it to my chest and closed my eyes. Would our babies have Marcello’s darker features, or would they take after me? Or even better, would they share our characteristics? I took the onesie with me as I left the closet, and then after getting one last look at the nursery, I used the newly added door and went to our bedroom.

I pulled the door shut behind me, and after using the bathroom, I kicked off my shoes and pushed my pants down my legs. They were thin linen and were the most comfortable pants I’d ever worn. Mazzi had insisted on me having several pairs, and I was glad he had.

I tossed the pants onto the bench at the foot of the bed, added my shirt, and then climbed into our bed in nothing but my briefs. They fit a bit more snugly than they used to, but Marcello didn’t seem to mind that my ass was a little fuller than it had been.

I grabbed the onesie from the nightstand, and after hugging it close, I closed my eyes and told my mind to shut off and let my body have the rest that it needed. It didn’t take long, and I felt myself dozing off, and then I was dreaming of playing on a blanket in the gardens with Marcello and two little babies who were just starting to crawl. My fox was crawling beside them, and my last coherent thought was how exciting it was going to be to have our twins here, and I’d be able to hold and play with them.

Chapter 15

Marcello

The ringing phone was insistent. It would ring and then stop, only to start back up again after a moment. I reached out blindly for my phone, but when I touched it on the nightstand, I discovered it wasn’t the one vibrating.

My head popped up, and I looked around the room. Abel’s phone was on the other nightstand, and it had to be his that was going off.

“Mio angelo, your phone is ringing.” I sat up and glanced around the room. The sun was just coming up, and it was normal for Abel not to wake for another hour at least. I tossed the covers back and went around the bed to pick up the phone. I saw Lewis’s name on the screen just before it stopped ringing. I held the phone, waiting until it lit up again. When it did, I answered this time because obviously it was important.

“Ciao.” I rubbed my forehead. “Err…hello?” There was a sharp intake of breath through the phone.
