Mazzi’s eyes widened. “In the commotion, they were left there.” Mazzi disappeared and then seconds later was back with my clothes. He handed me the phone.
I took several deep breaths, wondering if I could do this. But we really needed help. I looked up at Mazzi. “Can you watch the twins for, say, ten minutes?”
“Yes. What are you going to do now?”
“The only thing I can think of. I’m going to call Master Edison and beg for help.”
Mazzi’s eyes grew round once again. I stood, and after thumbing through the contacts, I found the name I was looking for. I knew it was the middle of the night there, but I didn’t have a choice because I really didn’t think that Sandro was going to survive if he didn’t get help from someone who could do extra special magic. Was that a thing?
I took a deep breath, touched the screen, and brought the phone up to my ear. It rang several times before a sleepy voice answered. I smiled at the Scottish accent that answered.
“Who are ye to be callin’ at this hour?”
“Wallace?” I said quietly. “It’s Abel. I need Master Edison’s help,” I said and started crying again.
“Abel? What’s wrong, lad?”
“Please, Wallace. It’s Sandro. We found him, but he’s been stabbed so many times.”
I heard muffled sounds, and then I fell to my knees when the Scottish brogue turned to a British accent. “Abel, tell me what you need. How can I help?”
“I don’t know, Master Eidson. The bad guys got Sandro. He’s been stabbed so many times, and he wasn’t healing. Can you help? He’s just a doctor. He doesn’t hurt people. Please?”
“Meet me at the front door. We’ll be there in moments.”
“Thank you,” I whispered. Mazzi was there, his arms around me.
“He said no?”
I shook my head. “He said yes. I have to go let him in. You stay here with the babies.”
Mazzi nodded. I gave him my phone and then left the room. If anyone could save Sandro, it was Master Edison. And maybe, just maybe, getting Sandro the help he needed would smooth things over with Master Vincent and Marcello. Possibly. Only one way to find out.
