Take your panties off. I want to watch you make yourself come as you think of me while doing it.

More dots appeared. Hot damn.

Nope. Sorry. This is all you’re getting.

Wait. What? No. She wasn’t going to edge me like that, was she? Son of a bitch, this woman was diabolical.

Ever, I said, show me.

What’s the magic word?

She was going to be the death of me. Was she trying to make me beg? Better yet, was I really not going to do what she was telling me to do? Nope. Absolutely not. If Ever was lying spread-eagled on the other side of an ocean of broken glass, beckoning me with her finger to crawl to her, I would do what any man of questionable mental health and a rock-hard dick would do and commence to said crawling, risk of bleeding out in the process be damned.

Goddamnit, Ever. Please. Please. Please. For the love of God, please!

I’m sorry, but the magic words were Please, Goddess Ever. Better luck next time.

No. No. No!

Ever, Goddess Ever, please don’t do this to me.

Goodnight, V. Maybe next time, when a girl asks you to come over to her house, you’ll make the time for her.

“Fuck.” I moaned, in anguish for both my psyche and my testicles.

“What?” Cole asked, glancing up at his rearview mirror. “Did you see something?”

I wish, Cole. I wish.

“No, it’s just a girl I met.”

“No shit? You met a girl.”

“Why do you seem so surprised by that?”

“It’s just, none of us have seen you with anyone, like ever. Never ever.”

“Okay. I get it.”

“Nice job, my man. What’s her name? When are we going to meet her?”

“Her name is Ever, and I’m going to need you to meet her tomorrow to install a security system I bought for her. If you can.”

Cole made a right-hand turn down the remote dirt road that led to Malachi’s property, glancing once more in his mirror. “Okay. I should be able to fit her in.”

“Great. Just do me one favor and don’t tell her who I am when she asks you, which she’ll most definitely do.Repeatedly.”

Cole looked over at me, quickly correcting himself when the car swerved slightly off the road. “And why can’t your girlfriend know who you are, exactly?”

“It’s a long story.”

“And the road we’re on is a long road.”

Game. Set. Match. I sighed. “Okay, but I’m going to need you to listen and not judge here, Cole.”

“Too late for that.”

“Just know I had, and still do have, good intentions with her.”
