I yank my door open. “Julius—”

Standing there with Julius are three large men, all wearing black leather jackets with the emblem of the Unchained Dogs. One is holding Julius with his arms pinned behind his back.

“I’m sorry, Dr. Holls.” Julius sounds panicked. “They asked me if I knew you. I didn’t know what was happening!”

The man tightens his hold on Julius and Julius grimaces in response. My stomach flips.

“Let him go!” I demand.

The men laugh, and Julius looks up at me. His eyes are wide and his lip is trembling. He’s terrified.

“It’s okay, Julius.” Turning back to the men, I look them in the eyes. “He’s just a kid. Let him go. There’s nothing for you here.” My voice is weak, so I clear my throat and stand up taller.

“Bitch, you’ve just been claimed by the Unchained Dogs,” the shortest one snaps at me.

“What the hell?”

Before I can think, they toss Julius off the porch. He lands with a thud on the dirt patch out front.

“Julius!”

I dash forward to get to Julius, and two of the men grab me and hold me under my arms. As I flail and kick, a third grabs my feet.

“Let me go!” I scream. “This is kidnapping. Let me go! Julius!” Keeping my gaze glued to Julius, I see him stir. Thank god.

The harder I fight against them, the stronger their grip on me grows. One man, who’s tall with a long, gray beard, laughs while I struggle. It’s everything I can do not to spit on him.

Carrying me down the front steps of my building, I twist and turn, trying to break free from their grasp.

“Make noise out here, and you’ll regret it,” the tall one snaps at me.

Flailing my head back and forth, I see something in my peripheral vision. Out of the corner of my eye, I realize it’s Julius getting to his feet.

“Run, Julius!” I shout. “Get out of here and find Seth!”

Julius staggers, and then takes off in the opposite direction just as one of the men covers my mouth with his oversized hand. It’s sweaty and filthy and smells like chicken fat and motor oil, but I know better than to bite. If I do, if I fight back—they’ll hurt me. It means nothing to these men to hurt another human being. In fact, they’ll probably enjoy it.

“Shut up, bitch!” the man holding my feet yells. He looks over his shoulder at Julius running away. “He gonna be a problem?” He nods to one of the other men.

“Nah, stupid thug is no trouble for us. Let him call Dynamite. That’s what we want.”

No—they want Seth. They want him to overreact. Damn. Trying to clear my brain, I gather as many details as I can—truck make and model, color, description of the men. Fighting my imagination, I don’t even want to speculate where they’re taking me—or what they’ll do to me when they get me there.

Without a moment to catch my breath, the men push me into the backseat of a black pickup truck. Damn, kidnapped in broad daylight.

Seth was right, and I should have listened to him. These guys are bad news.

Chapter Seventeen

Dynamite

Where the hell are those bastards who spray-painted Holly’s building? Gritting my teeth, I growl into the wind as I race out of Greenville toward Rumble. Whichever of those damned Dogs did this—whoever thinks they can claim Holly—Fuck. I would not want to be the man responsible when I find him.

What? What is that? Taking a corner that would have dropped a less-experienced rider on his ass, I’m pretty damned sure I feel the vibration of the phone in my front pocket. With a move that spins my bike around under me, I drop my leg to balance myself as I grab my phone from my pocket.

“Holly?” I don’t bother looking at the number.

“Seth, it’s Julius. They took her!”
