“He’s a Viper. They’re a good group of guys.”

“You said, ‘one club.’ What about the other club?”

“The Unchained Dogs. They’re a rival club—and an outlaw gang.”

Her eyes widen.

“Those guys are bad news and real… jerks.” For some reason, I don’t want to curse around this woman.

“Okay, but you haven’t answered my question. Why were you there? Was it to help your ally club?”

Still staring into her eyes, I take a step closer.

“Seth? Why were you there?”

No matter how stupid I sound, she deserves the truth. “Because of you. I was there to make sure you were okay. I know how awful the Dogs can be and that they treat women like garbage. I wanted to make sure you were okay and no one was messing with you.”

“Oh. I…” Glancing up at me, her face softens and the side of her mouth twitches like she might break out into a smile.

“But I was wrong,” I explain. “You can take care of yourself. You also had hospital security and…” Swallowing hard, I force myself to say it. “Your friend Covens was there. He’d protect you if you needed it.”

“Robert?” Rolling her eyes, she glances at the ground and then looks back up at me. “The only thing Robert is interested in protecting is himself.” Tilting her head, she smiles. “And maybe his tan. And his Alfa Romeo.”

She smirks, and I can’t help but smile along with her.

Looking down and then back up at me, she asks, “So, you really came tonight just to check on me?”

“Yes. I know it was stupid—”

Reaching out, she takes my hand and gives it a small squeeze, and it’s like a bolt of lightning shoots up my arm. Never, in my thirty years of life, has anything ever felt like that before.

“Not stupid, Seth.” She shakes her head. “It was very, very kind. And…”

“And?” I dare a step closer until we’re nearly touching.

“It’s nice to feel like someone’s looking out for me.” Her voice is low and breathy, and she stares at the ground as she speaks.

It takes all of my will not to reach out, place a finger under her beautiful chin, and turn her face upward to look into her eyes—

“Seth?”

Whipping around, I glimpse the brunette from the bar standing there. She looks from Holly to me and then back again.

“My kiss make you so dizzy you need medical attention?” Walking up, she shoves her hands into her front pockets and raises her shoulders. Letting them drop, she looks Holly up and down, and then nods to her.

“I forgot I was wearing my lab coat,” Holly mumbles and then smiles at the girl. Reaching out, she takes the girl’s hand and they shake.

Standing here like a numbskull, I can’t even do the polite thing and introduce them, because I have no friggin’ clue what this girl’s name is. I know she told me inside and I think I knew it once, but right now… Fuck. This is not how I want this to go down.

“I’m Holly.” Dr. Holly smiles at the girl.

“Tracy.”

Yes. Tracy. That’s it.

Releasing the girl’s hand, Holly smiles. “I just stopped by to check on Seth. He was my patient in the ER about a month ago.” Turning to me, she adds, “I was just wondering how you’re feeling?”

“Wow.” Tracy claps her hands together and her long nails make a clicking sound. “That’s nice of you to drive all the way out here to check on him. We really appreciate it.” Moving closer to me, she grabs my arm and hangs on it, leaning her weight against me. Looking up, she smiles at me. “Wasn’t that nice, babe?”
