¡°Ha!¡± exclaimed Travis. ¡°Did you hear that? She said no!¡±
Darting my eyes to Travis, I said, ¡°No, that¡¯s not what I was going to say.¡± I turned to
Isaac who looked out of words and finally I could speak. ¡°Yes, I want to talk. But not
here.¡±
He scrunched his forehead and said, ¡°¡¯Cause of¡?¡± while motioning to Travis. I shook
my head.
¡°No, no, it¡¯s¡ I¡¯ll explain later. Just not here.¡±
Looking unsure and hesitant by my nervousness, he said, ¡°Okay. My place?¡±
¡°Is the Tavern open?¡±
¡°Why does¡¡± Isaac started but then the understanding of my behavior began to show
on my face. Licking his lips quickly while he thought, he said, ¡°It¡¯ll be empty in an hour.
You¡¯ll come?¡±
¡°Yes, please just leave.¡±
¡°Okay.¡± He pursed his lips together and nodded before turning to Travis. ¡°Better luck
next time.¡± Then he left.
Still blinking at the door, I heard Isaac¡¯s motorcycle drive into the distance when
Travis said, ¡°What the fuck, Sam?¡±
Dammit, I thought. This is going to be awkward.
Slowly, I squared my shoulders to his and tapped my fingers on the table. ¡°So, that¡¯s
Isaac.¡±
¡°Yeah, I heard,¡± he said. ¡°What¡ what¡¯s happening?¡±
I looked at him, feeling a wretched tear through my heart but I knew I had to push
through it. ¡°I think you should leave.¡±
¡°Are you kidding me?¡±
¡°Well¡ yeah¡¡±
¡°You¡¯re really going to go with that greaser? Did you see him? What¡¯s your dad going
to think?¡±
I shrugged my shoulders. ¡°I don¡¯t know. I don¡¯t know if there¡¯s even anything to tell
him but¡¡± I bit my lip. ¡°He¡¯s right. You cheated on me, Travis. You broke my heart. And I
moved on.¡±
