¡°Don¡¯t fucking tell me what to do,¡± he said, and another guy piped up:
¡°She¡¯s gonna call the cops and stall,¡± his slimy voice said. ¡°One of us should go with
her.¡±
¡°All right,¡± the man in front said. ¡°You stay here with these guys, I¡¯ll take her.¡±
The other two men nodded and kept their guns pointed at Kelly while the third walked
toward me. Quickly, I turned to Kelly and whispered, ¡°Stay calm.¡±
The man grabbed my arm to drag me to our supply room, and that was when I saw it.
On his arm was the same green and yellow patch Isaac wore, and instantly, I knew this
was club related. The sensation of a ton of bricks slamming me in the chest fell over me
as once again I was reminded of how dangerous his life was. Though this time, it wasn¡¯t
my or his life in danger, it was innocent Kelly who wasn¡¯t even involved.
The cool round of the gun rammed into my back, and I clamped my eyes shut, feeling
fear wash over me. ¡°Move, bitch.¡±
¡°Okay,¡± I said. My bottom lip quivered as he pushed me down the hall with his pistol.
He held my life in his hands¡ªone slip of the tongue and he could murder me. Once I got
to the supply room, my fingers were trembling so bad I could hardly fit the key inside the
hole.
¡°Hurry the fuck up.¡± He shoved the pistol into my spine so hard, I smashed my face
into the door, feeling my cheekbone bruise. Trying again, I was relieved when I inserted it
first try. Inside the room were at least twenty different cupboards in alphabetical order
and I dove for the ¡°V¡± section at the bottom. It wasn¡¯t there.
My bottom lip trembled as I closed my eyes, taking a level breath as I stood to walk to
a refrigerator, praying someone screwed up and placed it there instead of at room
temperature.
He followed me like a shadow, hovering behind me as I stood to my knees and walked
to the refrigerator, saying, ¡°Saw that cute thing whimpering in the hall like a scared
animal.¡±
I halted, confused as to whether he meant to make a simile or being literal. ¡°Wh-
what?¡±
¡°Usually I don¡¯t like them so young. She¡¯s what, still in college?¡± I almost threw up
