¡°You¡¯re kidding me. I can¡¯t¡ª¡±
¡°Isaac,¡± he said, and a tense silence enveloped the van. ¡°Call her.¡±
Ten eyes watched me, even Maverick stared through the mirror. Sighing with defeat, I
said, ¡°Drive to the Tavern, Maverick,¡± and pulled out my phone to dial Samantha.
Chapter Twenty
Samantha
¡°Holy fuck, holy fuck, holy fuck,¡± I said most of the way to the Tavern. Fuck had
quickly become one of my most used words, but that was the least of my sins. I¡¯d just
disrespected my kind, generous father to meet some guy I hardly knew at four in the
morning.
I pulled into the Ironhead Tavern and gulped at all the huge motorcycles tracing the
front. Isaac was standing outside, and I gasped when I saw he was covered in blood.
Grabbing the first aid kit, I ran out, shouting, ¡°Oh my god! Are you okay?¡±
¡°Yes, yes, I¡¯m fine. It¡¯s not me, it¡¯s¡ª¡±
¡°Isaac!¡± I pushed his chest, looking wild-eyed. ¡°What the fuck is going on?¡±
¡°Please, you need to calm down, Sama¡ª¡±
¡°Calm down?¡± I snapped. ¡°You make me leave my bed in the middle of the night,
covered in blood! Oh my god, my dad is so pis¡ª¡±
He grabbed my face in his hands and pierced me with his eyes. ¡°Samantha. I know. I¡¯m
so sorry. I understand if you never want to see me again, I do,¡± he said, ¡°but please. You
need to help.¡±
Worry shone in his eyes¡ªan emotion I didn¡¯t think he was capable of showing. It
didn¡¯t hit me like it should have though, and instead, I stepped away from his soothing
hands and scowled. ¡°I don¡¯t have a choice, do I?¡±
His face dropped even more. ¡°What do you mean?¡±
Like a statement, instead of a question, I said, ¡°I don¡¯t have a choice.¡± His eyes darted
from mine. ¡°Something will happen if I don¡¯t.¡±
Isaac lowered his head, pulling his lips to the side, and shook his head. ¡°You don¡¯t
have a choice.¡±
With that, I gave him a curt nod and turned to the Tavern with him trailing behind.
