Trying to sit up, I was blocked by crippling pain that radiated from both my back and
chest down to my toes and shifted my neck back down.
What happened?
The last thing I could remember was cacti and pain. Did I walk into a cactus? That
doesn¡¯t seem like me. Did I relapse? No. I¡¯d feel way worse than I do. What the fuck
happened?
Right as I was about to begin believing I was in purgatory, my eyes began adjusting to
the darkness. Although I couldn¡¯t see much, I recognized the wooden beams of my
ceiling.
Something stirred to my right. I thought I was alone. Startled, I choked on my deep
breath, and let out a quiet cough. Floral fragrances grew stronger as the movement
continued and I realized that even with the pain, I must have still been dreaming.
¡°Shh, I know it¡¯s hard, but try not to cough.¡±
Silk hands grazed my bare chest, and slowly, I made out a few wisps of blond hair.
¡°Samantha?¡±
¡°Yeah. Hi.¡± I could hear her smile.
¡°What¡ what are you doing here?¡±
¡°You don¡¯t remember?¡± she asked gently.
¡°I remember you leaving¡¡±
A breath exhaled out of her nose and her fingers moved to my forehead. ¡°Yeah¡ a lot
has happened since then.¡±
I wrinkled my forehead, using what I had of my energy to gain any recollection. ¡°What
time is it?¡±
¡°More like, what day is it?¡±
In response, I raised an eyebrow on my already confused face. A little giggle escaped
from her.
¡°It¡¯s, uh.¡± She stretched in a way I couldn¡¯t possibly in my state. ¡°Two AM.¡±
¡°Oh¡¡± I pondered. ¡°That¡¯s not bad.¡±
¡°On Saturday morning.¡±
I almost shot my head around to her but made do with flinching. ¡°It can¡¯t be Saturday.
