himself to the seat. ¡°Here works great.¡±
¡°Great.¡± I performed a quick, but thorough, examination on Buddy and didn¡¯t notice
anything unusual, so I grabbed Buddy by the leash and led him down the hallway. As I
walked, I found myself riddled with thoughts. I never asked a pet¡¯s owner to wait in my
office with me for test results. What was I thinking? That was so inappropriate of me!
Despite what I said to Lizzie and Ellen earlier, I was having a date in my office!
When I gave Buddy¡¯s leash to the nurse, I waited outside the door and looked at my
mauve scrubs. Mauve. Mauve had to be the most unflattering color in the world, being a
strange tinge of purple, gray, and brown. Not to mention, the boxy cut and stiff fabric of
my uniform hid any sign of curves. I should have told him to wait in the lobby like
everyone else, but no, I just had to take any chance to stare into his green eyes longer.
Being a vet, it wasn¡¯t the kind of job where I hoped to see the patients again.
Once Buddy¡¯s lab work was done, I brought Buddy back to my office and took a deep
breath before opening the door. Isaac was no longer sitting, instead standing, facing my
framed college degree. I took the second to stare at his backside, admiring his broad
shoulders. I wanted to loop my arms behind him and across his chest, pressing my lips
against his back.
I shook my head. I was being so creepy! Imagining kissing this stranger¡¯s back? Who
was I?
Pivoting on his heel, Isaac turned to me and ran a hand over his buzzed hair. I always
liked men more with longer hair, but there was something about Isaac¡¯s short hair that
made him look so tough and rough around the edges. I wondered how rough he could be
with me¡
¡°Damn, you made the Dean¡¯s list in college, huh?¡± he asked and I wondered if he was
impressed or intimidated¡ or just making chit chat because he felt trapped in a room
with his creepy veterinarian. ¡°That¡¯s pretty impressive.¡±
¡°No, no, it wasn¡¯t a big deal,¡± I said as if I didn¡¯t spend my life in college poring over
textbooks. ¡°It was a small class. Anyone could have done it.¡±
¡°Anyone who went to college.¡±
¡°Where¡¯d you go?¡±
