couldn¡¯t help but feel like he was able to read my mind the whole time. Slowly, his tongue
licked his pillowy lips before he said, ¡°So. What does an intelligent and beautiful
veterinarian like yourself do to unwind?¡±
His words knocked the wind out of me, and I slumped into the arm of my chair. Air got
trapped in my throat and I tried to swallow, but my motor functions stopped working,
making me cough into my elbow. I caught his smirk shifting into a grin and I realized he
was amused, making me even more mortified as I tried to contain my coughing fit. Once
my eyes were good and watery and my cheeks blotched with red, I said, ¡°Yeah. Beautiful.
Ha.¡±
He laughed and replied, ¡°It¡¯d take a lot more than that to make me take it back, believe
me.¡±
I looked down in my scrubs and arched one of my brows. ¡°Yeah, because I¡¯m all
dressed up right now.¡± I winced at my sarcastic response. Long before my mom left, she
told me it wasn¡¯t attractive to deny a compliment. Made sense, I didn¡¯t even answer his
question! How rude, we were still talking about my looks! I opened my mouth to quickly
thank him and move on, but he slid his elbows further down his knees and for some
reason, I paused, like I didn¡¯t want to miss his response.
Goosebumps traveled on my skin in sync with his eyes as they trailed up my body.
Beginning with my bare ankle that peeked from my left pant leg, his gaze took time,
inching to up to my collarbone and lingered.
¡°Don¡¯t worry,¡± he said. ¡°I¡¯ve got an imagination.¡±
Flushed, I lowered my head to my lap. I wiggled in my seat as I felt my panties begin
to wet, pretending to adjust my position. Really, I was just hoping I could feel some
friction to get me through this appointment before any more professional boundaries
were crossed.
Isaac smirked at me, making me bow my head toward my lap with shame and desire
both twisting inside me.
¡°You didn¡¯t answer my question,¡± he said, and I looked up from my lap to meet his
eyes again. ¡°What do you do to unwind?¡±
For some reason, I answered honestly. ¡°Nothing. I don¡¯t unwind.¡±
