and I slept together, I felt stifled. I wasn¡¯t sure why, I just had a feeling that if I were to

express all of my desires, he wouldn¡¯t take me seriously. Maybe that was crazy, and no

man would turn that down. But Isaac didn¡¯t make me doubt myself for a second.

I didn¡¯t plan on spending the night, but quickly, quiet snores slipped out of Isaac¡¯s

nose. The rhythmic sound lulled my eyelids closed and I slid to the edge of consciousness.

Around my waist, Isaac¡¯s grip tightened, and he pecked the top of my head. All desire to

go home vanished, knowing I was exactly where I belonged.

About an hour later, my dreamless sleep was interrupted by the sound of a phone

ringing. Mumbling, I pressed my eyes into Isaac¡¯s chest. ¡°What¡¯s happening?¡±

¡°I dunno,¡± he said sleepily, and we both went back to sleep.

Sometime after that, the phone rang again.

Thankfully, I had slithered off of his chest and onto the pillow, because that time he

shot up. ¡°Shit,¡± he muttered before stumbling across the room to dig his phone from his

jeans.

¡°Dammit.¡± When he read the screen, he pinched his nose before answering. ¡°Hey,

Tank¡¡±

Slowly, I sat up, covered by the soft sheet. Without Isaac, the bed became cooler.

Rubbing my eyes, I watched Isaac wince as shouting was heard over the line.

¡°I know, no, no I wasn¡¯t, I¡ª¡± He looked over his shoulder and a look of guilt crossed

over his eyes when he saw I was awake. Turning away from me, he walked down the

hallway, saying something along the lines of, ¡°I just fell asleep. Don¡¯t know what

happened, honestly¡¡±

Uneasiness grew inside me as I heard him lie about my presence. My first instinct was

that he was seeing another woman, but that didn¡¯t seem likely. Nothing about Isaac told

me he was the type to settle down. He spoke openly about being with other women. It

didn¡¯t seem like he¡¯d cheat¡ªhe¡¯d just choose to be single.

But something was wrong.

Shortly, Isaac returned, rubbing the back of his neck. ¡°Uh, sorry about that¡¡±

¡°What¡¯s going on?¡±

¡°Nothing, it¡¯s¡ club stuff.¡±
