“I hear you, Doc. I hear you.”

The doctor cleared his team out, and Tank appeared, folding his arms across his chest.

“Tank.”

“Claymore, good to see that you’re doing better,” he said.

“I am. I know the doc said I need to rest, but we’ve got bigger problems on our hands. Ray and his goons are getting ready to hit. We need to move.”

Claymore tried to lift himself up off the bed, but I held him down.

“You’re not going anywhere.”

“Ella’s right. We’ll handle tracking down Ray and Fang. Ray’s scrambling now. He doped you up and left you for dead. When he realizes that failed, he’ll come for you, and all of us. We need to be ready, but we’ve got too many men down right now,” said Tank.

“So, what are we gonna do? Sit around and wait?”

“That’s exactly what we’re gonna do. Looks like you’ve got yourself a babysitter now, Claymore.”

I smiled, watching Claymore shoot me that soft smile as he sighed deeply.

“Oh, come on. It won’t be so bad. So you won’t get to join the others in their pursuit for now, but you have me. I’m sure I can keep you preoccupied,” I teased.

“Oh, is that so?”

“It sure is.”

I leaned in to kiss him, and the weight on my shoulders had finally lifted. Tank and I helped him up to the guest bedroom, getting him set underneath the duvet before Tank turned to me.

“Take good care of him. We’ll get to work on a plan. We won’t be around the clubhouse much, but call if you need us.”

“Thanks, Tank.”

“Yeah! Thanks, Tank!” Claymore shouted as Tank left, shutting the door behind him.

I pulled the sheets back, climbing into bed with him, and he wrapped his arm around me. I gazed into those warm eyes of his, caressing his cheek. The prickliness from his overgrown beard pierced my fingers, but I didn’t care. I was just so happy to be near him, to know that we were in the clear for now.

My stomach started to turn, and I felt a little woozy, but I imagined it was only because I’d been under so much stress lately. Claymore’s eyes scanned my face as he leaned in, kissing me softly. He pulled away for a moment, furrowing his brow.

“Ella? Are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine. I’m just a little tired is all. It’s been a long week.”

“Lots of worrying about me, huh?” he asked.

“You have no idea.”

Claymore kissed me on the forehead, pulling the sheets up over us both as we shut our eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep. For the first time in a while, I felt at ease. I didn’t worry about Ray, Fang, or their clubs. I didn’t worry about what chaos was waiting for us next. All I did was relish in how good the slow afternoon felt. The warmth of the sun on my cheeks peering in through the bedroom window, the sensation of Claymore’s strong muscles enveloping my body; it was all I ever needed. We’ll finish this someday, Claymore, but for now, let’s just be.

“So what exactly are we going to do to pass the time, huh?” he asked, teasingly.

“Rest. Lots of rest.”

“Doc said I only have to stay in bed. He didn’t say anything about what I can and can’t do in bed,” he teased.

He pressed his lips up against mine, and I pulled him on top of me. I wanted him to smother me with his warmth, to shield me from all the terrible things I’d been dealing with. His bare chest and strong muscles never failed to drive me crazy. I traced the soft bluish-green patterns of his veins that climbed up his arms, and my bare legs brushed up against his while we got lost in each other.

I opened my legs wide, feeling him slide between them as he trailed kisses down my body, unzipping the sweater I was wearing last night. My perky breasts peeked out from underneath the thick fabric, with hard nipples that instantly called his name. He took one breast into his hand, gripping it hard while he sucked on it and I moaned.
